Usually love La Paloma

Jun 14th, 2020

We stayed last night at LaPaloma, usually one of our favorites. We did a short stay cation for my kids b-day since we can't be in Mexico where we had originally planned. The resort as a whole was nice, as always, but the rooms were bad, and I felt all should know before you decide to book here. I looked over our covid letter and scanned the entire website looking for any notes that would or should of advised me of the changes, but there was nothing I could find. 1. BED!!!!- one of the reasons I love Westin is for its "heavenly" beds. However, they have unzipped the "pillow top" portions off the bed! You will basically be sleeping on a box spring. It was as hard as a board!! I have been so achy today from it, and tossed and turned all night. Worst nights sleep in a long time. I literally asked my husband about leaving in the middle of the night and going home, it was so bad. You can see the pics I took showing where the zipper is and now a piece of felt and 1 flat sheet are the only softness you have. HORRIBLE!! Everyone in our group wondered why the beds were so hard and did not sleep well. 2. WATER!!!!- I checked the website while packing and saw they had complimentary water in rooms, so i did not pack any. They did not have any!!!! I was too tired to walk the long walk to the lobby late last night so i just drank from the tap. Also by the pools, they were giving away bottled water at the towel station but did not have any in the big refill stations. Odd, but at least i could get it there in the day. 3. Robes and lavender- I always enjoy the robes and amenities like lavender spray, but there were none to be found. Maybe this is a covid thing, but couldn't get an explanation anywhere. 4. Disinfecting wipes- the website says they will be in the rooms. We did not have any. Not a game changer, but don't advertise it, if you aren't offering it. I know our community is struggling with all the new changes since covid appeared a few months ago, but had I of known the beds were going to be so bad, i would of canceled or moved our group of 8 or 9 rooms to another resort. Great getaway

I travel a lot, both for work and pleasure. I have seen it all. This resort is a solid 4.5 stars. Rooms are big. Service is top notch. Marriott does well here. Price is right. Clean rooms and well appointed. I would return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Overall Good Experience

May 31st, 2020

Nice experience overall! The resort grounds are beautiful & they have a decent amount open on property compared to some others right now (most restaurants, fitness center, pools, water slide, hot tubs, etc!) Front desk staff was very kind and helpful. We were by the pool most of our trip and loved it. Pool got very busy so I would recommend getting their early or renting a cabana which is what we did! Cabanas were good - included a fruit plate, bottles of water, sunscreen and chapstick. All food & beverage checks at the resort had an 18% service charge on it which made it easy - the servers were quick to say they had to share that gratuity so tipping on top is appreciated as that money would go just to them. Only complaint is that Cabana charges were inconsistent - they charged us wrong both days and one server charged us the gratuity on the Cabana fee, one didn’t. Additionally, the poolside restrooms could use some love. Again, staff was great, the recreation attendants were all great, wish we had gotten more names! Lindsey (server) and Haley (attendant) at the pool we’re amazing, very professional & attentive! The manager at the pool, Rob, was rocking it - he told us that this was not his normal area but he was helping out for a while. He was on the pool deck all day long, helping, talking to guests and making everyone’s stay great! The pool supervisor (didn’t get his name, but in a gray polo) was also always working hard and visible all day long! Rooms were nice, slightly dated and had quite a few bugs throughout our stay but it is the desert! Balcony was peaceful and relaxing. Would recommend overall! Will definitely be back. Quiet desert retreat

Apr 14th, 2020

We had never been in Tucson and spent our first night at this hotel. Not many guests around, very quiet and nice, my wife had the big pool to herself in the morning and dinner at one of the hotels restaurants was fine. Very impressive surroundings and a very wellkept golfcourse, at least the parts of it you could see walking around the hotel. Fantasic sunrise from the room we had. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Disappointed

Apr 11th, 2020

We were scheduled to stay at this hotel for several nights this month for a wedding in Tucson. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus the wedding had to be postponed and we were required to cancel the reservation. Despite Marriott’s published policy indicating that any reservation cancelled through 4/30 would not be subject to penalties or fees, they charged our credit card anyway and have refused to refund our money. Getting them to return phone calls or emails is nearly impossible, yet they took the time to respond to our credit card dispute. It’s disheartening that during a global health pandemic this resort would choose to take advantage of its customers like this. I’m sure the resort is nice enough but we won’t be rebooking here when the wedding is rescheduled. We will also be telling the rest of our out of town family and friends to avoid booking here.
