Relaxing stay at large resort property

Feb 20th, 2020

The best part of the Westin Princeville is the size of the property. There are 3 pools and a large open lawn between buildings 3 and 7. I hate it when resorts don't have enough chairs around the pools so that everyone runs down first thing in the morning to put towels and belongings to reserve chairs. This never happens at the Westin Princeville because there are more than enough chairs for everyone. You can come down to one of the pools any time of day and get chairs in the sun or shade. The main pool area has a nice kids pool with a slide that was a hit with the kids (ages 6 - 2) in our group. I also spent time at the 'quiet' pool which is a great option for some quiet relaxing time away from the activity of the main pool. Poolside drink and lunch service is great. I would highly recommend. There are protected Nene (Hawaiian goose) and chickens on the property which didn't bother me in the least. However, some of the guests' behavior that I observed, such as kids chasing the birds with squirt guns and throwing french fries off balconies was disturbing. There is a flyer in each room saying not to feed or harass the protected Nene but no notices outside. I do wish the hotel would place a greater emphasis on informing guests about the harm they are doing to the protected Nene by feeding them bar food. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Dirty, Uncomfortable, and Awful Overall

Feb 19th, 2020

It seemed as though everything was dirty and the entire place smelled like toxic cheap cleaning supplies. We had to open all the doors to try and air it out and yet it still was terrible. All the drawers and surfaces were dirty and dusty. I decided to not use the drawers since the inside of one was sticky like someone had spilled ketchup inside it. We folded out the sofa bed and it was one of the most uncomfortable sofa beds I’ve ever encountered. We called down for new sheets and pillow cases because the spares for the the sofa bed looked dirty and it took 50 minutes for them to bring it to us and that was after we called a second time about 40 minutes in because we thought they had forgotten it. The pools were filled with a bunch of people drinking beer or something. For something so expensive and not to mention, a bonvoy marriot, I would have expected better. I will NEVER be staying here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Needs help.

Feb 17th, 2020

The room was covered in dust. The provided kitchen utensils and dishes were too dirty to use. The porch was covered in “ droppings” and was never cleaned once. Overall the hotel is in terrible condition with very inattentive staff. Trash that was left out by guests such as groceries was left in the hallway for days. The hallway was covered in stains and also smelled. The entire property is covered with roosters who constantly make noise. The noise starts at about 4am and woke us up every morning as well. These roosters leave “droppings” all over the walkways making it very hard to walk around the pools barefoot. The food at the hotel should also be skipped. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not Happy

Feb 16th, 2020

Very disappointed with our stay. The Westin is cliff top above the ocean, so to get to the beach you need to catch a shuttle to the beach at the Princeville Resort. You could use the pool, if you don’t mind the fact that geese and ducks swim in there too! I booked an Island View room, thinking that sounded good. After arrival I queried whether I had gotten the right room as I only had a partial view of a pool, I was told that all rooms in the resort are called ‘Island View’. I find that very misleading. I found the breakfast buffet very limited in range and the food offering at the pool bar very poor also. We ended up leaving early and relocating down the road. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beautiful setting & ocean vista's spoiled by dire restaurant.

Feb 16th, 2020

We really did not know what to expect because the reviews on this place are so decidedly mixed. So let's dispel a few of the misconceptions we had. tahe place does seem to have been extensively remodeled - recently. The 1 BR studio we had was very comfortably appointed and it was clear that it had been recently re-done. The staff outside the restaurant were uniformly friendly welcoming and would go out of their way to serve you. All of the bad things written about the (only onsite) restaurant are true. The food is poor, it is monstrously overpriced and the service is dire. The other thing that is distinctly off putting is that the restaurant is overrun with birds; the situation is so bad by the buffet that they have had to install some sort of "rotating bird swat device" next to each dish. Guys get real install mesh on the window, import sparrow hawks but kindly stop the birds form pooping all around and quite possible in the food. Our server let us know he was only serving us because he was taking pity on us because we had been waiting so long! So if you want to eat and you want half way decent food and not entirely obscene prices then you have to head into Hanalei where there are plenty of good places to eat. Altematively head down to Foodland the local supermarket which we thought was excellent and grill on one of the many immaculately maintained BBQ's in the gardens around the pool. If they could sort out the restaurant this wld be a darned good Westin. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
