Nice Boutique Hotel

I have stayed at the Whitehall Hotel a number of times because I always have a good experience. It is within easy walking distance of North Michigan Ave. and some of the most popular tourist destinations. The hotel's staff is terrific and always interested in making your stay more enjoyable. The hotel is decorated with traditional furniture giving the rooms a classical look which I find appealing, although I'm certain some people would prefer more modern décor. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

So this review is going to very direct. Here are the pros and cons of staying here. Pros: Location. It’s right off of Michigan Avenue. you’re only a five minute walk from....everything. Truly this location can’t be beat. Price. This is a very reasonably priced hotel for its location, but be aware, you get what you pay for. The Beds. The bed was actually really really comfortable, as were the pillows. I slept very very well. Cable. They have a full cable option with all the basic channels as well as the ability to sign in with your own HBO go or Netflix. Heat. I know some previous reviews had issues with the AC. It was in the 30s during our stay and our heat worked wonderfully and our room was very warm. Restaurant/bar. They have an adjoining restaurant and bar that was nice, albeit overpriced. Luggage hold. If you are unable to check in early, they will hold your luggage for you so you can go hit the town. Cons Mold in the bathroom. Like, all through the grout line. I didn’t feel like the shower was dirty but obvious visible mold should not be happening and it does make you wonder how clean the shower you are bathing in is. Outdated. I’m not talking so much the decoration, as I am just about amenities you expect in 2020. We had no plugs near our beds to charge our phones and have them by us at night. The only plug we were able to use was a power strip underneath the desk. It seems common place to have at least lamps with a USB port built in or a clock radio, but they didn’t have any of that. While it’s a minor inconvenience, it would go a long way to help in this digital age. Overall this was very much a 3/5. I’m not sure I’d be opposed to staying here again but I’d probably look for alternative options first. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Alicia was more than accommodating. We had concern on the size of our bed ,and she went above and beyond to make it ok by upgrading our room! It was a blessing to my trip and I appreciate Alicia's service for The Whitehall Hotel. I'll never forget it! Thank you. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
5-Star Customer Service & Location

I've stayed in dozens of the nicer hotels in Chicago and the Whitehall staff blew me away during my two-day stay. They weren't only professional and efficient, they were personal and warm, too. Though I didn't park a car there, Joshua, a relatively new valet, made a memorable impression as I observed him deliver friendly and professional service to everyone who entered the hotel. His enthusiasm and warm smile were the norm among all the staff I met. Just a few steps from the best fashion shopping in the Region, the hotel is close to by and a wide variety of restaurants offering every type and level of food you can imagine. The Whitehall is also far enough from the well traveled ambulance routes to the Northwestern Trauma Center to be surprisingly quiet. It's been a while since the interior has been updated, but everything in my room was in excellent condition. Water came out of the faucets hot and with good pressure. The like-new, smart TV was a welcome improvement over the mediocre cable service offered in so many hotels. Top this off with a nice robe in the closet, stocked fridge and snacks, top-notch linens, a huge safe, and a solid fitness room, and you have one of the VERY best lodging values in Chicago. I'm coming back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Was excited to come here. Front desk staff is supposed to take time to welcome you and explain the ground; THAT WAS NOT DONE. Let me just tell you, check-in was about 40/50 seconds and check-out was 10 seconds. The rude bellman Jamie doesn’t know what is respect or professionalism. The front desk staff can be replaced by a machine. The young lady just asked for my credit card and gave us the keys. That’s all. Rooms are clean and spacious. Great location. Great price.
