Promises luxury, doesn't deliver. A disappointing stay.

There were two reasons we chose to stay at the Thompson Chicago over similarly priced hotels in the area: the Lexus car service and the floor-to-ceiling windows featured in every room. Neither of these were delivered as promised. First of all, the description of the room we booked clearly stated that it featured floor-to-ceiling windows. On the Hyatt website, every room at this hotel claims to have floor-to-ceiling windows and every room photo shows floor-to-ceiling windows. The reality is quite different, as we were given a room with two small boxy windows. Additionally, the Lexus car service and test drive offer isn't available on Sundays, a fact that isn't mentioned on the hotel's website. If your stay falls on a Sunday, don't expect to be able to take advantage of this supposed perk. My Hyatt Explorist status wasn't acknowledged at check-in, and there were no complementary bottles of water in the room upon arrival (a perk that is supposed to come with Explorist status.) Overall, a disappointing and lackluster experience, especially since we were celebrating a birthday during our stay and had noted that on the reservation. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This is a good hotel, centrally located and rooms are fine. I would say as a negative the service in the restaurant at breakfast is very slow, and the opening time for breakfast is too late for business travellers. My really big negative though is that I have been trying to get a receipt for a stay back in Mars for a charge that was made to my card after I checked out. I have sent numerous emails, called direct to the hotel and still no joy. The last time I stayed I had to chase up the invoice as well by calling direct as it was not sent to me as promised. The emails did not even get a reply. Buck up team! You are meant to be a professional organization and are letting your team down! I won't stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location. Great vibe. Rooms are crisp. Love the. stores nearby. Staff helpful and friendly. Will definitely come back. The only place I stay in Chicago. Breakfast is very good. Great atmosphere. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing experience all around, thank you for a superior stay! Loved staying in the penthouse, what a phenomenal setup! We were able to have our infant sleep in the lower area and we were able to still enjoy the room without having to sneak around. So great, right in the middle of all the action, plus—Nora gives the BEST service around, it was so refreshing to have such a high level of service! Thank you! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Excellent hotel and staff

I have stayed at the Thompson on several previous business trips and have always enjoyed the beautiful and comfortable environment, as well as excellent staff both in the hotel and at Nico's; however, on the first morning of my most recent stay I met Murphy, who ended up being the highlight of my Thompson experience. Murphy and your complimentary VIP car service is fantastic! I ended up riding with Murphy 3 times during my 2.5 day stay at the Thompson, both solo and with colleagues, and he was professional, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and a great driver as well.
