So close, but yet so far.

We had a mini midweek vacation (3 days, 2 nights) with close friends and had a wonder getaway. Only a one hour drive from our home, but a wonderful change of pace... peaceful, relaxed, a slower more civilized pace. As a multi-million mile traveler I can say the entire staff was as friendly, genuine and helpful, as I have ever experienced. Plenty to do, we kayaked, paddle boarded, lounged by the pool, par 3 golf, biked into town, 2 hour dinner under the tree's overlooking the water... just perfect. Room was clean and comfortable with a great view overlooking the docks. Other great restaurants in town and a friendly "Local" coffee shop as well. Many Virginia license plates in the parking lot. I suspect many are return guests. Highly recommended. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
One of a Kind

We drive up Sunday, and got in late because of the traffic leaving the Outer Banks (car wreck, stuck on bridge for 1/2 hours), so we booked another night. Our room was OK, but I did not like the tub, too haed to get into. they upgraded us to a King Suite in the main building, where we stayed before, Perfect. All the meals were great. probably enjoyed the breafast meals best. Took a boat ride with Capt. Tom, got rained on, but, a lot of fun and info. This is a great resort for kids of all ages, the sailing school is great for any age, they teach them the basics, and then supervise. Great place for a conference, lots of space. Staff is friendly, and ready to accomodate any request. Can't beat the views. Golf course, pool, tennis, boating, fishing, crabbing, something for the whole family. Ate Oysters every day, they are local! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Husband and I enjoyed four glorious days at the Tides Inn. Sunset cruise was delightful. Beautiful property. Loved our meals and cocktails at Fish Hawk. Manager Sophie was a delight. Looking forward to next visit. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Visiting this place is like hanging out at your best friend’s lake house! If you want modern/updated/flashy, it’s not for you, but if you want comfort and beauty and escape, it’s a hidden gem. I took out a paddleboard and kayak a few times, with no wait and no time limits, and was able to explore the coves in peace and quiet without the chaos and noise of an overcrowded waterway. The staff is like family, and the food was delicious (Fiesta Salad at the Fish Hawk is awesome!). Hanging out at the picnic tables by the fire pit on the small beach in the evening is like being at a private lakefront patio. The guests are generally older than at a more commercial and “hip” resort, but there are families and couples as well. And this is part of the beauty of the place. I visited the spa for a scalp massage and pedicure, both fabulous! It’s homey and welcoming and low-key, and I will definitely return! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
What a let down for my birthday weekend
Jul 3rd, 2019
My husband had surprised me with a birthday weekend away and at first glance on the website everything looks fabulous. I will start off by saying that the only reason this review is not terrible is because the staff was very helpful. We were in the garden house on the first floor and had a leaking panel in the bathroom, what looked like water damage in the shower ceiling and then the toilet paper holder fell off the wall. Additionally the lock on the sliding door was broken. You can hear everything from your neighbors. While the views may be amazing the rooms are in serious need of an overhaul. We will not be coming back anytime soon and of course are still waiting on a response to our complaints. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
