Experience Sintra by staying in one of the magnificent Palaces

Dec 10th, 2019

Luxurious stay, Palace is very well maintained with magnificent pieces of art and furniture from the date. The rooms are really good. The stay was a full experience of going back to the kingdoms age. Truly recommend. The service was amazing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nice but overpriced, not 5*

Nov 27th, 2019

Location of the hotel is excellent for visiting Quinta da Regaleira and is a short (steep!) walk into Sintra. The palace is beautiful from the exterior and is very authentic which leads to its pros and cons - it is a unique experience to stay in a palace but it is obvious that the interior is old and run down. Carpets are really dirty in the rooms. We were disappointed to receive a twin room after booking a double, and were informed that this could not be changed. The service is good but you can’t help feeling like the 5* status comes from the palace itself rather than on true merit. Breakfast was average. When taken to our room we were told we had been given the VIP treatment of free water.... that is not something that a 5* hotel should consider as VIP!! One day after sightseeing we entered the hotel and began to walk to our rooms when we were stopped by the hotel staff (who had ran after us!) thinking that we were tourists trying to have a look around. We had to remind them that we were staying at the hotel. Room service was carried out at around 3pm which seems a bit late. We often did our sightseeing in the morning and wanted to return after lunch which clashed with their schedule. They were happy to come back later though. Overall it is a nice hotel and a unique place to stay but I really don’t think it is at the right price point/star rating. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A Special Experience

Nov 13th, 2019

From the moment we arrived until the day of departure we couldn’t have been more pleased! Wonderful service, magnificent room, a talented chef, and lovely views everywhere. Even the air was fragrant with the scent of boxwood from the boxwood gardens (that are magnificent)! Everyone was warm and MADE us feel appreciated, and always with warmth and professionalism. Andre, who serviced our room, went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed (and more) to be comfortable and to enjoy Sintra fully. The chef creatively addressed my husband’s food restrictions and prepared him wonderful alternatives to what was on the menu; the massages we had couldn’t have been better (my husband likes deep tissue while I wanted a more relaxing and therapeutic massage) and we both commented on how good our massages were! In our opinion, the management is doing something VERY right at this amazing place, to see all the staff smiling and clearly happy to be there, all part of the same team. I must also add that I overheard a comment that it was “a little rough around the edges,” and was taken back by it. After all, the property dates from the 18th century so why would anyone NOT expect to see a little wear? But I didn’t even notice it at all; what I noticed was the charm, overall beauty, elegance, fine dining, delightful “tea service” ... and exceptional people who made our stay memorable. And one more thing: I learned that “tea” was introduced by INTO ENGLAND BY THE PORTUGUESE WIFE OF Charles II (Lady Braganza) Abe wonderful varieties of tea are still part of Portuguese life! Wonderful experience!

Can only imagine what life was like living in this magnificent home turned hotel. Room was nice. Bathroom was small. Front desk staff and housekeeping were exceptional. Thought the common area floors were a bit dirty and carpet was wearing in many places. Bar service and staff were great. Breakfast buffet was over the top and dinner and wait staff were beyond great! Highly recommend this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
