Absolutely disgusting

May 24th, 2019

Got out of my car, just to step on a bag of feces. I told staff that there was a bag of poop in the car park and they told me they would take care of it, when I left the FOLLOWING DAY the bag of waste was still beside my car. When we entered the room, there were food crumbs and nuts scattered across the floor of the room. The housekeeper was just down the hallway so I went to speak to her right away. SHE ACCUSED ME of making the mess and refused to clean it. There was stains on the sheets. We had a suite and paid over hundreds of dollars for this HORRIBLE experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Don't count on hotel staff to make your transportation arrangements

May 9th, 2019

I was in town for a family emergency and after a six-day stay at the Westin Prince in North York (conveniently near North York General Hospital where I needed to be every day), I had to move elsewhere for the final two days of my trip because they were overbooked due to limited rooms during construction and too many hotel reservations. The Marriott Markham seemed like a good option because it's a Marriott and new. The aesthetic of the hotel is modern and clean. My favorite two things were the spacious bathroom counter and bare floors in the room. Seriously, hotel room rugs are gross. Dinner at Draco was very good and a reasonable price but the presentation was poor, not appetizing looking so thank goodness it was tasty. My real complaint was a screw up on my car reservation on checkout day headed for the airport. I checked with the front desk the night before I left to find it if they could get me a car for the morning, the cost and assurance that this would be handled, confirmed and a guaranteed ride. I was assured of all this and then asked to confirm. The response was "Absolutely." When I arrived in the lobby at 3:40 am the next morning to check out (they couldn't print my receipt because "the system audit was running"), I mentioned my car reservation for the airport. A confused look from the man at the desk, followed by "That's for tomorrow." instantly put me on edge. He said I can get one for you now and I asked how long it would take for the car to arrive. The very pleasant man (running through his script for an angry customer which only made me more angry) said 10 minutes and he offered me coffee, tea or juice while I was waiting. I said no thanks and I was skeptical. I strongly assmked is it really 10 minutes to make sure I didn't wait another 10 minutes only to still be waiting when I could have called an Uber right away. The night before (and I may have misunderstood) the girl who took my reservation said the car takes 30-40 minutes to get to the hotel because the place isn't close. Naturally I was skeptical about the 10 minutes comment this morning. He assured me, now 5-7 minutes. A few minutes later, he said 10 minutes. At this point, I am losing my cool worried I will miss my interntational flight which makes a connection. Well in total, I waited 20 minutes for the car. In the car heading to Pearson, the driver asks if I want to take a toll road or non-toll road. Non-toll is 15 minutes longer and as I am now pressing for time, of course I said take the told road which adds $15 to my $85 ride. Bottom line, got there in time and I am writing this sitting at the gate but this was an awful way to end my stay and that canned insincere-sounding apology was not what I needed to end an already stressful DN emotional trip. Undecided whether I would stay again due to this issue. Not the fault of the morning person but his handling was frustrating. Don't know who handled things the night before but that is really my beef. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Marriott Hotel Markham

Apr 28th, 2019

Early days for the Marriott Hotel on Enterprise Blvd Markham. Parking was an issue due to very poor signage for a first visit. I believe this is fixable. Very nice lobby restaurant and a Ruth Chris Steakhouse is part of the complex. New construction so the physical plant was pleasant. There is a shopping centre across the road with lots of food options. The service was excellent and I found the menu limited. Ruth Chris opens for dinners only. Early days so I would give the hotel a mulligan. I will try it again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Love Marriott however this one could use some guidance - specifically, in the Club Lounge

Apr 14th, 2019

My husband and I were attending a Chinese Baby shower in the area and researched which Marriott chain hotel to stay in. Considering all the factors we chose this one because it had a Concierge Club lounge which is convenient. Our experience at other Marriott club lounges specifically the Delta by Marriott Downtown Toronto is thee best above the rest and was absolutely no comparison to this Marriott which I shall come back to in this review a little later. It was our friends who originally got us hooked on the Marriott chain and we're also booked to stay here albeit in a regular room. That being said, we're nearly 100% loyal Marriott members and nearly always stay in the Marriott chain where one is available due to consistency, quality and of course the Marriott bed. And, now that we have achieved Platinum elite Marriott status which includes certain upgrades, I thought this would be something we want our loyal Marriott friends to experience too specifically the club lounge. When I called reservations and advised them of such they graciously upgraded our friends to the club lounge too. The room - was exactly as you see on the website. It was a bit dark and was a good size however not near as spacious as most other Marriotts although it appeared to be renovated. Upon walking in, we noticed that as a Platinum Elite guest they had a fruit tray and two bottles of Perrier water with a welcome note left in our room - lovely! The bathroom was fine albeit the shower (no tub) was narrow and had put the levers in the oddest place on the side of the wall while the shower head was on the back wall causing me to hit my side a few times on the side levers - I'm 165lbs! This was a very odd place to put shower levers. The seating area with table was unique and surprisingly comfy. I loved that the tv had Netflix so you could watch albeit you have to sign into your account which is fine with me. Once while I was watching, the tv completely cut out and shut off on me. The bed of course was comfortable however I noticed it was low to the ground - no boxspring just the mattress and on a box. Weird and I'm short. The view was said to be a gardenview however it was March and a view of the roof which may or may not be a garden in the spring/ summer/ fall or what have you but on our night it was a rooftop. The pool area - was also unique albeit it clean. Towels - there were none down there so we used the house phone to call for them as we only had two towels in our room to begin with and I certainly wasn't going to use them for the pool and shower as we were going to get ready for a baby shower. Anyways, I asked when they were brought down why they didn't have any in the pool area and the person told me they had not yet decided on a place to put them - uhm.....there was lots of wall space. Anyways, all that said it was a nice stay up until we went to the club lounge after check in for beverages to find the place a disgrace as it looked like an animal was set loose in the lounge - food bits and uncleanly, no snacks or it looked like there were however an animal terrorized the place, no beverages in the coffee machine as a friend who we luckily got upgraded for use of the lounge found nothing - no milk in the machine to make a latte/ capuccino etc and little to no beverages in the fridge.....So discerning and what an impression to give our good friends. Anyways, we figured this is a one off and come back several hours later after the baby shower later in the evening to find it still disgusting. We thought this is not normal so the next morning we go downstairs and find that it is tidy and this is where I see whom I believe was a Manager (F & B Sr. Op Mgr) later known to me as Kirsty [--] and I explain to her the all of the above and that I had friends upgraded who are also loyal Marriott members and this is what they got to experience for their first access to the club lounge and then, she proceeded to apologize and mentioned that the first staff member on shift in the lounge in the morning noticed this too and mentioned it to her apparently on the Saturday it is not staffed and other staff are to check up on it etc...anyways, she proceeds to ask for our friends room number but not ours however I gave it to her and gave me her business card. I figure that we paid for our room and that she would somehow compensate us all and lo and behold neither one of us got a thing. I have to admit we would return, if we ever were in the area requiring a stay however that's unlikely because we're hardly if ever in this area. The food in the club lounge was basic eggs, bacon, breads, cereals unlike other club lounges that offer a variety of options to include smoked salmon and a variety of meats and cheeses. I would recommend this hotel however do not go in with high expectations of similar Marriott standards as this "one off" I'm calling it, may be great in other ways comfy bed, points etc. but the lounge was a huge disappoint and we were shocked when we all checked out and nothing applied not even a credit. Then, why ask for a room number??? TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
