Average and Slightly disappointed

Jul 19th, 2019

Our overall experience was good but there are some things that anybody with a family needs to be aware of if you plan on traveling to this resort. 1. The pools are way too small and too crowded for a resort this big! Luckily the gulf was warm and calm but can't imagine what the pools would be like if you couldn't swim in it. This was very disappointing especially after 1 of these pools is adults only. In my opinion its an accident / injury waiting to happen. When we did get the opportunities to sit by the pool the drink service was poor. 2. Expect to pay for a lot of extras not included in the $45/day amenity fee. The floating water park is $16 per person for 1 hr or if you want to reserve cabanas in the front row at extra $15/day. Something parents of smaller childer would want to do in order to watch their kids swim in the gulf. 3. Plan on at least $75 per person per day on meals if you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at the resort. I recommend food shopping at the Publix across the street for breakfast items and snacks and exploring the St Pete Beach downtown area for some good restaurants. I recommend Brass Monkey about 2 miles south for great crab cakes and seafood, along with excellent sunset views. Spinners revolving restaurant is great for sunset meals and Rum fish has a very nice atmosphere for all. 4. Found the resort to be very noisy in the early AM. Our bedroom portion of the suite was located just inside the door instead of on the beach side, which could make a difference in noise level. 5. The resort needs some updates to maintenance and cleanliness. Pools near the beach side of the resort had a strong odor from then bathrooms, and elevators were OOS at times. I would much rather spend my vacation money here in the US but for what's included at this resort, the costs of soft drinks, adult tropical drinks, and meals, I could easily have received more for my money at an all inclusive resort in the Islands for what we paid here. Family vacation

This is our second stay at TradeWinds Grand Island Resort. Our grandchildren loved all the activities offered throughout the resort- certainly enough to keep them occupied throughout the day. My only complaint was the lack of restaurants opened at the main facility for breakfast and lunch. There were no breakfast options other than breakfast sandwiches. The food offered beachside for lunch was merely adequate The most impressive part of our stay was our room attendant Naime. Our first morning we were greeted with a smile and genuine interest in meeting our needs. Our room was always cleaned to our expectations and she was eager to go above and beyond. Unfortunately, her replacement on her days off did not perform the same. Naime sets the standard for your room attendants and should be commended. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Overpriced mediocre Holiday Inn level hotel

Jul 18th, 2019

We just returned from a week stay at this resort. We booked through a conference and having been to a number of similar conferences at various resorts, this hotel is by far the worst. While the cons vastly outweigh the pros, the hotel does have a select few redeeming qualities. PROS: 1. The staff - generally speaking the staff here is superb. Especially Tammy the concierge, Debbie at the Flying fish as well as others, although I cannot remember all of their names. 2. The pirate show - a cute free show with Redbeard the pirate who tells stories and sings. 3. The high-tide slide - the ppl working the slide are less than friendly, and generally seem annoyed at having to spray the sand off guests' feet but the slide itself is fun. 4. The beach - pretty, clean beach CONS - 1. The cleanliness of the resort - Our was overall gross. I found an entry bracelet (the type you get at a bar) next to the nightstand (not ours), a clump of blonde hair (I'm brunette, husband shaves head) on the carpet and stained carpet. there are stained carpets throughout the halls as well. These rooms are "renovated" but are nothing more than a standard holiday inn double bed room. 2. Balcony - calling this catwalk a balcony is generous, considering it's about one foot wide. 3. The pools - who in their right mind designed this resort?? You have a number of large buildings servicing hundreds of guests and if you have children, you have two SMALL (think backyard size pools) over crowded, cloudy, pools. The pools are standing room only by 11am. In addition to this, there were a few drunk adults (not the hotel's fault necessarily) that were doing cannon balls in a very crowded pool with small children all around that could have been injured. No staff intervened. This resort needs additional or larger pools desperately. Overall, this resort is disappointing and not worth a return visit. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Just OK

Jul 18th, 2019

While the lobby and conference area both make a good first impression, things change when you go further. All of the pools are small and crowded. People smoking in the adult pool- dropping their ashes in the pool- garbage and butts all over the grounds. Changing room/ bathroom closest to the pool closed all week. The next closest bathrooms were VERY dirty. Paid extra to rent an ocean front cabana- it kept falling down because two parts were broken. When I trekked back up with the broken post, I was given a replacement with no offer to assist. When I asked for help with the other broken part, I was told the supervisor was on lunch break but someone would come to check on me soon. Hours passed- no one ever came. Noted groups of employees who spend most of their time huddled together socializing- their time could be used to patrol the grounds picking up garbage and checking on guests. Great view from the Jacaranda bldg- spacious suite but..... hair and soap scum on shower walls, no bottled water (as indicated on check in brochure), musty smell throughout. Observed man return pizzas to snack area, pointing to obvious burned cheese. He was told “they’re all like that. That’s how we make them.” Overall, not enough good choices for snack areas or meals- left the resort for better options. Overall, not impressed and would not recommend this place.
