An amazing hidden gem!

Mar 12th, 2020

This was our first time at this wonderful resort. The staff members were all so sweet and really wanted to do anything and everything to make your stay the best, from delivering ice to your room to bringing your car to the concierge desk area whenever you needed it. From the moment you arrive, they load your luggage on a golf cart and deliver you to your oasis/room. The wonderful thing was they would shuttle you almost anywhere you needed to go, like the restaurants or the amazing Hamoa Beach. Bobby and Ki shuttled us multiple days and they treat you like family! We were in #45 which is just one off of the corner and looked out over what is called the garden area. Fresh Plumeria blossoms were my treasure to pick up off the ground and smell each walk. Wonderful paved paths let you roam the expansive grounds and between the garden side and the ocean side. There is a road between the two sides but there really isn't much traffic. Two amazing pools, jacuzzi, a fire pit on the ocean side along with hammocks and the Pailoa yoga studio (not sure if they have head massages but a lot of other spa services). The Makana activity center on the garden side has a pool right outside it and has shuffleboard, a pool table, foosball, large connect four, croquet, cornhole, table tennis, lots of different sports balls and so much more. They also have a 3-hole pitch-n-putt, tennis courts, baseball park, library, gallery, gift shop, spa, restaurant/bar which brings in local musicians. They also have bikes here but we didn't have time to try them out, so I am not sure if they are complimentary. Wonderful paved paths let you walk the grounds and that can be a great experience all on its own. There is a congregational and catholic church just across the street. Hana has 2 stores, 2 food trucks areas, a gas station post office and The Ranch Restaurant (which we recommend highly, my personal favorite was the Hana chicken), that we saw. The lovely thing is you can either walk or take their shuttle service. They offer tons of activities every day and they change, some free and some with a fee. The room was huge, with an enormous bathroom with a tub area, double sink area, toilet area, and a shower area. The room also had two ceiling fans, two big closets, 2 desks/nightstands, dining table, couch and coffee table and a bar area with sink, mini-refrigerator, and coffee area. They provide robes, a floor fan if needed, an umbrella should you need it and did I mention the Lani with lounge chairs and table to enjoy that gorgeous view. I could go on and on about the wonderful time we had and there are just too many wonderful areas to see and explore in this area. We will definitely be back! We highly recommend this resort if you want to get away and relax & unwind! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Yoga Retreat 🙏

Mar 9th, 2020

We hadn’t planned on our stay being a “ Yoga Retreat” for me as the marketing indicated there was yoga but not the fact that there’s a beautiful yoga pavilion with great classes 2-4 times per day! Doing yoga while watching the ocean and the sun streaming in or maybe the next minute a torrential downpour with breezes flowing through the pavilion is awesome! A special kudos to Jody the yoga instructor! We originally planned to spend 3 nights but within hours of our arrival at this very low key “old Hawaiian” resort we cancelled our last night in Hawaii at an upscale Waimea hotel and extended our stay at Travassa. If you’re looking for a perfectly manicured resort like a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons this , in my opinion, is not the place you’re looking for. However, if your looking for genuine warm Aloha you’ve found the place! Both I and my husband had great massages! Kudos to Linda ( from me) and to Joni ( from my husband). My hot stone massage was perfect and I’m very critical about hot stone massages! The pool near the ocean is beautiful and can be serene unless some father with his teenage sons decide it’s their own private family pool and start playing “Marco Polo”: Ugh! There’s another pool that, in my opinion, should be set aside for games and crying children. The ocean side pool should at least be designated the “Quiet pool” if not the “ Adult Pool”. The dining at the Preserve restaurant was excellent! Loved the poke, poached squid/shrimp/octopus, farm green salad, roasted cauliflower, eggplant with miso. Also want to give a shout out to the entire staff who were so friendly! On another note, I highly recommend a lunch at Hana Farms restaurant which is just a few miles before your reach Travassa on the Road to Hana. Great food right from their farm! They also have a market with a variety of goods. There’s also a variety of Food Trucks just about a block further from Travassa that we didn’t have a chance to try. We did go to the farmers market ( also just down the street) on Friday and bought great papayas from Ono Organic Tropical Fruit Farm. Also check out the Hasegawa General Store that sells , it seems, everything!! One word of caution, the road to the Visitor Center for the National Park is treacherous! Many deep deep potholes, hairpin turns and locals who seem to want to scare tourists off the road! To call it a road is truly a joke! It makes the “Road to Hana” seem like a well maintained straight-a-way! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Overpriced disappointment

Mar 1st, 2020

We stayed here previously when it was adults- only in the cottages. It was expensive, but we felt it was worth it. I can't say that any more. We went back for a three-night package and still LOVE the property location - the situation can't be beat. But they put us in a much smaller room that was a far cry from our first visit. In order to enjoy the view - which is what you are paying for here - you did have to be on the small deck, and the chairs were extremely uncomfortable. Literally every other room had a bigger deck and nicely padded chaise lounges. I BEGGED for just ONE of those so I could sit outside and was completely turned down. I guarantee that if you ask for something at The Ritz (and you rarely need to ask) you would never just get a flat-out refusal. ZERO desire to make it up to me at all either. The tired room itself was also lacking - no dressers at all, though there is enough space to do so. The closets were in the narrow entry so you had to play Tetris to access them. Similar door jockeying to use the dark little water closet. Curtains were a daily wrestling match. Beds really unimpressive. I just felt like we were the orphans there. The pool are is nice and expansive but the spa water was too disgusting to use. Letting folks have their swim-diapered toddlers in there is NOT OK. I will mention the positives: Even though the room is humble, it was spotless, very friendly staff, especially great service at the restaurant - and the food was very good. My husband really enjoyed the Hawaiian Throw Net fishing experience A LOT. Love that you are exposed to the sea air and sound of waves crashing. I just would not recommend this property for the cost unless they brought everything up to what you expect for the investment. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Birthday retreat for two old friends to relax

Feb 20th, 2020

Excellent property, good food, fabulous swimming pool,(and Gabriel the pool man was terrific) and the scenery can’t be beat. Its a one of a kind place to unwind and unplug, it’s a treasure. I’m hopeful the new owners are sensitive to keeping it a kind and family oriented place. We’re definitely coming back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Only place to stay in Hana!

Feb 12th, 2020

This is the only place to stay in Hana! Quite literally the only place to stay. There are a couple of tiny places in the 2 star range, but even those are few. Travaasa Experiential Resort is fabulous! A few elements of our oceanview cottage could have been upgraded like the tub and older tile of the bathroom, but the room was large with a wonderful lanai with 2 comfy chairs and a table facing the bay down the hill. The bed was luxury and the coffee bar was stocked with delicious Hawaiian coffee!! The resort itself was reflective of the original Hawaiians in the artwork and experiences available. I only wish I could've stayed longer! They offer many daily activities that are included in the price and several additional fee options. We enjoyed a horseback ride along the coast with some spectacular views! The restaurant had many gourmet selections that were delicious and beautiful! The steak was incredible and so was the local fish! I highly recommend this resort for honeymoon couples and those that want to disconnect from the world and reconnect with each other! (Although there is WiFi, there are no TVs.) This is a great base to really explore the road to Hana and all the beautiful waterfalls and pools! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
