Comfortable and quiet

Feb 4th, 2020

Wasn’t sure what to expect booking sight unseen. Location was easy to find. There’s a Mexican restaurant next door so no need to venture out for lunch or dinner. Hotel front desk staff were pleasant and friendly. Room although somewhat outdated in terms of curtains and comforter, was clean and everything in working order. I’d stay there again if traveling through the area and in need of an overnight stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good basic motel

Easy access to the Interstate, parking is abundant, rooms are easily accessible from outside or inside, must have key to enter building, rooms are spacious and clean. Was not impressed with breakfast but wasn't there for the food. I will definitely choose this motel the next time I am in Iowa City or traveling that way. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Okay for the value

Nov 22nd, 2019

We stayed for two nights. Check-in was quick and the person at the desk was nice. I haven't stayed in a budget hotel in quite sometime so I'm trying to be as honest as possible giving this review. I was traveling on a budget and needed something cheap and non-scary, so I chose here thinking since it was Wyndham it couldn't be too bad. I was right, it wasn't too bad. It wasn't great either. My room was fairly clean. It did have a small fridge that ran loud all night. There was some moldy grout around the tub and rust around the tub faucet. And air/heating unit was directly under the window and curtains, so when it was on, the air/heat blew into the curtains when they were closed. We checked in late the first night and other than removing the top cover from the bed, I didn't do much of a check. The next day, I did notice that there was a dark stain on the top cover (I'm glad I removed it), and there were orange stains on the box spring cover, looked like someone wiped their hands on it after eating Cheetos. There were also dark stains on the curtains that I couldn't identify. The water pressure in the bathroom wasn't that great, both the sink and shower had wide spray faucets that were a bit frustrating. When I booked my room, the description said it had a balcony, what it had was a iron grate in front of the window, I mention this only because I thought it was pretty humorous when I saw it. I just peaked into the pool area, no one was in there while I was there and it looked well maintained. As for the breakfast, they had an egg omelet type offering that was a fluffy egg folded over american cheese in the middle and waffle mix available to make fresh waffles. My son tried the waffles and didn't like them. The cups provided didn't fill the waffle maker and the taste of the finish waffle was off somehow. When we stayed there was no other meat offering. They did have muffins and cereal also, along with packs of oatmeal. They also only had 8oz coffee cups (this personally didn't impress me, 8 ozs of coffee really!) Would I stay here again? If I'm forced to travel on a budget again, this would not be my first choice, but I would choose it over other budget hotels. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Rodent in the Ceiling

Nov 20th, 2019

We had stayed at this hotel in the past with no issues. When it came time to book a stay for this trip to Iowa City I had no reservations booking a room at this Travelodge location. The first night was fine, no issues to speak of. However, the second night was not so great. While lying in bed we heard a noise that we could not distinguish. After searching we determined that it was coming from the ceiling, and it was a rodent of some sort making clawing sounds. Based on the volume of the sounds, this was much larger than a mouse, possibly a rat, opossum? This went on for sometime. The people in the room above us heard it as well, they were stomping on the floor to get it to stop. After lying there for a while trying to ignore the noise and fall asleep with no luck, I went to the front desk. The lady working at the desk did not seem to care. She did try calling her manager but was unable to get a hold of them. She told me that there was nothing that she could do about, and management would not do anything either without proof. I was very disappointed in the lack of service or even compassion for the situation. We paid well above the average rate for this hotel because of it being a game weekend. I would expect better from a national chain hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
