My favorite place to stay in Edmonton

Dec 8th, 2019

I have stayed at this hotel on every trip to Edmonton. On my most recent visit, I was greeted by Nikola D. who is, in my regard, one of the most professional front desk clerk I have ever met. He was honest, helpful, attentive and not in a rush. He made my stay at the hotel very special. Nikola is to be commended on superior performance. As usual, the room was impeccably clean. I was fortunate to get a room in the Heritage section. My room faced Jasper which is a tad noisy but I appreciated having two large windows and plenty of daylight. The bathrobes are a wonderful amenity and the wine and cheese platter at 4h30 (approx.) is just perfect and oh so timely. The gas fireplace with its built in timer is great during the colder months (which is typically when I visit). The breakfast which is included is taken in the beautiful dining room on the main floor. There is a good array pf choices and the food is good (but not great - it was a tad better once upon a time. The servers are fast and very efficient. The rooms are very soundproof. Never once did I hear noise from another room and I know that hotel was full when I was there. The location of the hotel is perfect is your business is in the downtown core. It is close to buses and the Light Rail Transit (both underground and the new one above ground currently under construction). Fabulous restaurants nearby including Tres Canarles (Mexican) and Ruth’s Chris (American Steakhouse chain). A short walking distance to the Edmonton City Centre (Mall) and the Citadel Theatre (I saw a production of A Christmas Carol). Skyshuttle can drop you off at this hotel and pick you up for the return trip to the airport (18.$ one way). They are reliable and on time. Compare with the set rate taxis from the airport to downtown at 55$. Stayed five nights and loved every minute of it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Website photos are deceiving

Oct 12th, 2019

The hotel and rooms are way smaller than it looks in the pictures. There is no place to park when you’re driving by the front of hotel on jasper ave. We had to call the hotel to ask about parking while driving around the block. Then they slapped us with a 25$ parking charge when we were checking in. There is no room service late at night and if you order in from elsewhere you have to go down to the front door and let them in. The complimentary wine and cheese was an individual plate in the room fridge with 4 pieces of cheese, a few crackers and grapes and there was about 1 oz of wine to go with it. The bath/shower was lacking water pressure and had only two temps: burning hot or freezing cold. The pillows on the bed we’re huge and hard as rocks. We woke up with sore necks. We wouldn’t pay 210.00 to stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Rudest person in the hospitality industry

Aug 8th, 2019

I unfortunately had the displeasure of speaking to someone at the Union Bank Inn and experienced the rudest hospitality industry worker I've ever dealt with. I work in the event industry and deal with many hospitality professionals and have never had an experience like this. Atleast at other hotels if they are clueless and can't figure out how to help you, they try and be polite about it. I had booked a room here and had to cancel it and then found out a family member had secretly covered the room cost as a surprise, so I wanted to speak with the hotel on rebooking and making this unique situation work. When I spoke to the Inn about making this work so we could still have the experience, the woman I spoke to talked down to me like I was a child, used industry jargon, literally laughed AT me for trying to clarify my predicament, interrupted me when I tried to speak, and flat out refused to work with me on solving the issue. After 5 minutes on the phone with this woman I had completely changed my mind about giving the Union Bank Inn any money and will not ever stay here nor support it in any capacity. I cannot believe this hotel has people like this working in a customer service capacity; I was not valued whatsoever as a guest and have never been made to feel like I was so bothersome. Perhaps the employees who work during the day are more polite but this person has ruined this hotel for me, a hotel I had always looked forward staying at. Please don't support a business with such horrible customer service practices and stay in another lovely establishment available in the downtown core of Edmonton. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Downtown Boutique Hotel

Aug 1st, 2019

Very nice hotel. The room was quite small but it was quaint. The wine and cheese service was nice every night. We were there for a couple weekend getaway. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The rooms are heritage or contemporary with very large windows to watch the downtown happenings. Very comfortable beds and lots of pillows. At no fault of the hotel, the only complaint I have is that the street dwellers become a little intimidating after 7 or 8 pm. We were walking back to the hotel, and some people were a little invasive. Otherwise, this hotel is fantastic. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great place to stay but a little worry some out side.

Jun 28th, 2019

First this is a great place to stay in terms of the hotel it self. Very helpful staff, great service. It was very nice they add a touch with wine and cheese every night. The room was great - clean but luxurious. The bath room was very large. The only negative is there is a nice park next door but at night there were lots of homeless people hanging around and one even made gestures that he was going to attack us. I think in the end he was kidding but he was very drunk so you never know. Also based on the people hanging out at the park I was a little worried about the contents of our car. The second night we brought up 4 sets of golf clubs that were in our trunk as we did not want to take the chance they would be stolen. Nothing happened but with the car left in an open parking lot behind the hotel and no security we were a little worried. So while this was a great place to stay I would not stay here again just because of our worry about the "neighbours" and the unattended, not secured parking. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
