Not worth the price

Although the hotel was chosen by our tour company and not us I still believe this place is not worth $250 per night. The rooms are very noisy and the staff seem poorly organised. There are much better alternatives in town. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A beautiful hotel with a nice view

Jan 15th, 2020

The hotel is a bit far for the center-20 minutes walk, but it worths as it faces the lake, being located on a cliff. Make sure you get the lake view room. We booked a room with view, the travel agency sent 2 e-mails in order to make sure we get what we’ve booked but the front desk didn’t care about it. We spent the first night in a room facing a garden. The receptionist (not the young one that made our check-in, but his older colleague) was rude, unhelpful and arrogant. He actually told me that a garden view is a view and that they are not obliged to give us the lake view room. I wrote a complain, he refused to register it, even though it was addressed to my travel agency. He claimed the manager was not there, saying that he would handle it to the manager the next day. He never did, when we cheked-out he “misplaced” it and said he would send it by e-mail. Never did. The next day we got the lake view room. The lobby, the swimming pool and all the common spaces looked very nice, beautifully decorated, clean. The rooms were large, clean, comfortable. My parents had an apartment and was looking amazing- stylish furniture, luxurious bathrooms and very very large. This apartament was perfect! The breakfast was an excellent one, with a large variety of hot and cold choices, a lot of pastries, fresh juice and very very good coffee. The staff was helpful, nice and attentive. We also tried the restaurant, we had an excellent dinner and I warmly recommend it. They offer a large variety of wines and this was a big plus. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

You’ll read that the walls in this hotel are paper thin, this is very true!! You can hear the people next door as if they were right next to you. Also, this hotel doesn’t have AC. The room was very warm and muggy! We opened the window but there was no screen so bugs would fly in. The room had no fan either. It was a very disappointing experience. The two staff members, Sophie and Carlos were extremely helpful, but other staff were combative and rude. One of our tour guides stated that Hotel Mirador was very nice, although we never stayed there. I’d think twice before staying here. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Just Average

Jan 6th, 2020

The hotel is about a 20 min cab ride from the airport and a 15 min walk to downtown Calafate. From the outside the property looks good and things started out well. Our room was not ready yet and they stored our bags while we walked to downtown and when we returned we were pleasantly surprised that our luggage was already in the room. Our room had a good view and it’s nice you can open the window to let fresh air in. However, the décor is dated, our door was warped and light from the hallway was coming in from the top of the door, and the walls are thin and you can hear everything coming from the hallways and adjoining rooms. The shower is confusing to use (tip: use the inner ring to control the temp) so don’t turn on the shower head yet until you get the temperature you want. With the exception for the gentleman with the ponytail, the receptionist staff that we interacted with were rude. They seemed more concerned with whatever they were looking at on the computer and it felt like it was a burden to stop what they’re doing and help us with our questions. Out of all the hotels that we stayed at in South America (Rio, Buenos Aires, El Calafate), Lagos was the most expensive and we definitely felt like we didn’t get what we paid for. Nice hotel and staff

This property is well located, just a 10 minute walk from town. Really nice, helpful staff. All spoke other languages. Only issue was that the walls were paper thin. Food and wine were good and reasonably priced. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
