We had hoped to take a Caribbean cruise for my son's 18th birthday and high school graduation. When it was clear that wasn't an option, we booked Portofino Bay as a back-up vacation...one booking in May and one in August, hedging our bets. We got an email stating that the parks and hotels would be closed through the end of May and that we were being issued a full, immediate refund without any action on our part. So much easier than the 2+ months we waited for a refund on our cruise (finally had to escalate to credit card company to get our money back). The hotels and parks are now open for business, but my 18 year just had surgery and didn't feel wearing a mask in the park in August's heat was the best choice for him. I called Loews and had no trouble canceling and got a refund within 10 days. We were at Portofino last summer after the loss of my MIL. The staff went above and beyond to make my son's birthday special. It was just what he needed...a little happy distraction. We'll definitely return in the future. Terrible customer service

I called in early April because the remainder of my payment was due. A nice lady convinced me to pay & assured me that I could get a full refund if the parks, hotels, etc.. remained closed. I called over a MONTH ago & still no refund!! I have called three times now. Still nothing! I will definitely consider a Disney hotel the next time. My neighbor received a refund on a a Disney hotel within 48 hours of calling. There is no excuse for this! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Me and my family have been visiting Orlando every other year for a while now and we trialed different hotels until we found Portofino bay, we now stay here every time. We can not fault the hotel it is beautiful, the service is fantastic and staff are so helpful. Never had a bad experience here. Also the breakfast is my favourite thing out of any hotel I’ve ever stayed in why don’t people mention this more!! Amazing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent spacious rooms clean and gorgeous nice staff. We went for the Harbor Nights After Thanksgiving it was just beautiful. They do it just perfect and a lasting memory Food is also very good and the opera singers at night are beautiful TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stayed at this gorgeous hotel with my “teen” (age 13), “tween” (age 11) and sister, 3/12 - 3/15. (We checked out the VERY DAY the parks closed due to COCID-19!) Whoever is able to find fault with this hotel is clearly not-picky! The hotel itself is gorgeous! My sister, who has visited the Amalfi Coast of Italy & Capri said she felt like she was “back in Italy” the moment we arrived! We arrived at the hotel at 12:30 p.m. Staff was friendly & welcoming! We were offered an available room down the end of a long hallway which we decided to pass on (we’ll be walking enough at the Parks! Who wants to hike down a long hallway at the end of the day?!) So, we left our luggage with the luggage valet (don’t forget to tip!) and chose to wait another room was ready. SO glad we did! Room #1134 (East Wing) overlooks the Bay. It was spacious, clean and comfy! BONUS: it has its own little patio with a table & 2 chairs, enclosed by a low wall! My sister & I enjoyed cocktails & the live performances by the Italian singers on the patio each evening while the kids strolled around the bay or watched a movie...so relaxing! The only negative: we weren’t given any wash cloths 2 days in a row...but a quick call to housekeeping fixed that, We enjoyed the hotel pool on arrival day. Poolside service was convenient. The water slide was closed for maintenance but the kids didn’t mind. Cabanas (with dedicated wait staff, fan, TV, etc) are available for rent for $250.00 per day. Not bad if you plan to spend the day languishing by the pool after 2-3 days exploring the Parks. Speaking of Parks: Express Passes, the best things since sliced bread, are included with your stay at Porto Fino! ($85.00 each if purchased separately!). Separate Express Pass lines on all ride & attractions; no long waits! Express Passes not available at Volcano Bay but, as a guest of the Porto Fino, you enter ALL 3 PARKS 1-hour early!! So, grab a chaise, drop (or lock up) your stuff and RUN to your favorite ride or slide before the throngs arrive! Although the Porto Fino is the furthest hotel from the Parks, access is easy: You can walk, take the Water Taxi or take a “bike taxi”: Kids & I were taken by bike taxi to Universal! Nice ride and a great way to see the other hotels & landscaping. (If you choose this option, there’s no fee; bikers work for tips, so please be generous!) Crowds were large but manageable, considering the onset of COVID-19. All hotels & parks really stepped up their game in terms of additional safety and sanitary precautions. (Side point: my family & I self-quarantined for 2-weeks after our return from Universal. Happy to report that we are all healthy & doing well!) Nice restaurants on site; we ate at Mama Della’s the night before our departure. The calamari was delicious...just wish the portion was a little bigger...The salmon & shrimp with pappardelle was amazing! My sister enjoyed the spaghetti & meatballs. Kids meal portions are generous & include a drink & dessert. Wine & beer prices are reasonable. There’s also a Starbucks & a pizzeria with mini mart on site. Be sure to stroll through both gift shops (one off the lobby and one on Bay level) as well as the lovely little Art Gallery. **COMCAST EMPLOYEES: Show your Company I.D. and enjoy a 20% discount nearly everywhere! I won’t use this review to talk about the Parks (although we had a BALL!!!) But, Loews Porto Fino Bay Hotel gets “TWO THUMBS UP!” from my family!!
