Truly excellent experience

I loved so many things about our stay at this hotel. The pillows were good as was the bed. The water pressure and shower head were good. The room was quiet and dark at night. (no weird electronic glowing things) The first room we were given had a funky smell and we were given a new room and new keys within 2 minutes of calling the desk. We loved that the room had a little deck and that the sliding door opened to let in lots of fresh, clean air. The sheets and bedding were soft and comfortable. Breakfast was tasty, quick and friendly as well as covid-safe. They served scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and french toast along with coffee and juice. Our room had both a mini-fridge and a microwave making it easy to travel "on the cheap." The staff was attentive and friendly and gave good restaurant recommendations. Even the roll-away bed was comfortable. Parking was free when we were there despite being advertised as costing $18. The location was good for the things we wanted to do near downtown and Portland state University. There is a light rail line (max line) right outside the front door. A wonderful place to stay. Quiet, comfy, and a continental breakfast!

I had a great stay at the University Place Hotel. I was in and out frequently but was always greeted by smiling, helpful, and accomedating staff. The highlight for me was the continental breakfasts. They provide a great spread and plenty of it. Overall, there is a staff member in the dining area by the name of Art. He not only greeted and cleared tables but he also went out of his way to make certain my experience there was a great one. Everyone on staff did a fantastic job! My time at the University Place Hotel was awesome due to them. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

My daughter and I stayed here recently when she had an accident and I came to take care of her. Our room was remodeled and very clean. We were very comfortable as she recovered. The breakfast was delicious everyday and the attendants were courteous and efficient. Our room was quiet and had a great big tv, a comfy chair, and a very nice shower. The housekeepers were nice and worked around my daughter as she rested. We used the frig and microwave and were happy to have them. The only complaints we had were a heater that was warm but noisy and vending machines that didn’t work. The hotel is in a great location and is incredibly well priced in downtown. There are walkable restaurants and easy access to public transportation. There were even daffodils blooming in February! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Car window smash cost us about $700
Feb 9th, 2020
We stayed at University Place two nights (1/27,28-'20). Just returned from Mt. Hood Skiing. Did not empty entire car completely because we had a lot of gear. Parked close to door into Hotel. Second night, rear passenger window broken out - $3-400 worth of gear stolen. Window repair $300. We discovered homeless camp of about 8 tents just an arm's throw from guest's cars. (See photo) Absolutely no security in lot. No lights, cameras or patrols. We were told by Portland State U. campus police that this was not an uncommon occurrence. So the hotel certainly knows of this nearby camp & yet does nothing to protect its guests. Plus it charges $18/nite for the convenience of parking next to said camp. We have written President Percy of PSU to alert him of this egregious situation. Speaking with Manager "Alex" later in day he refused our request of a night's refund saying -"That action would indicate the Hotel was at fault". Unfortunate but true. The hotel knows of this lurking danger yet continues to have its guests park in a very vulnerable spot. BTW the room was fine. Help mostly good. Hallways depressing. Breakfast included is nice for those on a budget. Location to public transport is excellent. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
overnight stop to see aperformance at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall

This hotel was excellent for our purpose. We were making a quick overnight trip and wanted somewhere convenient that wouldn't break the bank. It was clean and comfortable, and the staff was great. The person who checked us in, I believe his name was Sage, was great. He was very helpful and congenial. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had good water pressure. What else could you want. I though there might be noise from the highway, but even though our room was in back facing it, we didn't hear a thing. The breakfast that was included was one of the best complimentary ones I have ever had. And the parking was the most reasonable in the area. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
