Knowing COVID should change normal expectations, I’ll still give you the good and bad. Bad: as a gold bonvoy member, I’m eligible for room upgrades when available but like all my other stays, it wasn’t available. Like others have said, it has sort of a low class vibe with lots of barely clad groups of young women hanging around. No view from room just brick wall. Beds are basically mattresses on the ground sitting in a bed tray. So low you can’t just sit and hang out comfortably. The lights are so modern they are extremely hard to figure out how to turn on and off. No coffee in room but that’s due to COVID that they removed that amenity. No daily maid service either again due to COVID. Your room is only made up and cleaned if you stay 3 days or more as they do it every third day. This was not communicated until I called to see why my room wasn’t made up by 1pm. Expensive valet parking at $55 per night. No good food options but again probably due to COVID. The good. Beds are comfortable. Bathroom clean and well appointed. Need room key to use elevators to room. Pool is lovely and I believe cabanas are free with a first come first serve and is limited to guests of hotel only. Bartender at pool very friendly even though a margarita and a can of beer costs $24 before tip. Valets are very friendly and quick. Fine for a weekend getaway. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Well needed getaway during COVID

I happened to get lucky regarding my timing when coming to LA. I arrived about a week before things got real bad for California with Covid back towards the end of June and early July. Coming from NYC where things were real bad in March and April, it was a relief to get away for a week or so. Having stayed at other W hotel locations around the world, I'm a fan of the brand. As for this location, it was relatively empty throughout the day at least when I was there. We went up to the pool a few days and there were no more than 5 other people up there. When it comes to safety and cleaning precautions, 95% of people in the hotel were wearing masks and the hotel for the most part looked clean. Some sections of the hotel were closed in an effort to limit gatherings. The only knock I have on this location, and it's something I've seen in other reviews as well. It seems that this location has become a hangout or meetup for wannabe Instagram influencers and recording artists. It seemed like every night like clockwork around 11:30pm/Midnight, cars would pull up in front of the hotel and people would pile out to have a party. I would go out occasionally at night to smoke a cigarette, and without fail dozens of people were out there at all hours until the morning. I do understand that this W location has residences attached to the hotel, so it is possible that these people live there, but it's most likely that they don't. Other than that issue, my stay at the W Hollywood was a pleasant one and I would definitely return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
NOT TAKING CLEANING PRECAUTIONS DURING COVID
Sep 15th, 2020
They checked us into two different dirty rooms. The carpet had foot marks, pebbles, sand, hair, baby powder etc. there was soap scum on the faucets, multiple hairs and make up marks on the sheets, dust and finger prints on every surface. Beyond unhygienic for any time but during COVID this is unacceptable! I messaged the general manager and got no reply. Messaged another manager and got a “sorry”. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU VALUE YOUR HEALTH! This ruined our trip and made me paranoid for two weeks after my stay. The managers did nothing to try to compensate for the money we wasted or the stress they caused us on our vacation. Go elsewhere that appreciates your health and you as a customer. Gone to the dogs!

Huge disappointment... Have enjoyed many stays in the past but those days are OVER. Crowded entrance & lobby with rude customers & vagrants not wearing masks. Completely ghetto vibe & the place is obviously no longer maintained ~ dirty & shabby. Total contrast to the previous “W experience” that was characterized by upscale accommodations & amenities & service. We got sloppy, unprofessional service and something reminiscent of a run down Vegas hotel filled with shady characters and hookers. All we wanted to do was hide in our room and watch some movies till it was all over BUT our keys didn’t work & needed to be reset 3x from the time of check-in. Alas, we were unable to connect our iPhone to the TV to stream videos, so we settled for some overpriced food with slap shot room service. No availability at the pool for the entire duration of our stay since “resort pass” access is given to non-guests from the public like a free-for-all. We will never come back & we will advise others to stay away. Shame on Marriott for letting the W waste away & not warning their loyal patrons the mess that awaits. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
