A Special Place To Stay In Chicago

Jan 17th, 2021

This was our second visit to the Waldorf Astoria Chicago. We enjoy many hotels in Chicago, but there's something very special about the Waldorf. The Parisian theme and courtyard entrance make it feel like a world away from the rest of the city. The rooms and suites are spacious and beautifully appointed with luxurious marble, crown molding, and crystal chandeliers. Even with the reduced tourism and strain on the industry during the pandemic, all the staff at the hotel were responsive and accommodating during our stay. We enjoyed our weekend getaway and look forward to returning again in the future. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Above and beyond and memorable experience

Jan 17th, 2021

My wife and I have been meticulously careful during COVID-19 pandemic so we decided to take a romantic weekend getaway with preparation and forethought. That said, I am very glad we chose this hotel. First, from the moment we spoke to the front desk manager Judson about hygiene and safety procedures, it was clear that all contingencies had been considered. Tick. Second, this was a birthday trip for my wife. Ieascha, also at the front desk, helped us to set a beautiful table for our in room dinner. This was complete with linen, silver, flower petals (after she said they weren’t available if we didn’t order in advance, she took it upon herself to make magic happen, and she did) and candles. Tick, tick. You don’t go to this hotel looking for low cost; You go for the experience. Even so, I would call this not just extremely good value for what we got. It was simply better. Yep we’ll go back. I recommend it to anyone traveling to Chicago. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The Waldorf Astoria was great

Jan 17th, 2021

We took a quick trip to Chicago to look walk around DePaul's campus since they were shut down. From booking online and asking questions through our stay it was great. The mobile app is awesome for chatting with the front desk. Everyone we worked with at the front desk was super helpful and polite. We ate breakfast at Petit Margaux and did takeout. Kristen who was working both days we were there made by wife a Cafe Latte and she said it's one of the best she's ever had. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Non-existent service - inexcusable for this type of hotel

Jan 1st, 2021

Let’s start with the positives - nice looking hotel and great location. Check in was quick. Room was nice and spacious. The bathroom was very luxurious. Unfortunately, the cons outweighed the pros. First, our lovely room had a view of an alley and a brick wall. Second, it’s Christmas time. The lobby was not decorated. They did have a magnificent tree in the driveway but nothing inside. I would expect much more from a hotel of this caliber. Third, the pillows and sheets are not comfortable. Pillows are hard and the sheets are not soft. Who goes to a nice hotel to sleep on hard pillows and rough sheets? I really don’t understand how they have not noticed this issue. While nice, the rooms also lack warmth. Finally, their service was close to nonexistent. The room next door to ours was being incredibly loud and having a party late at night (during a pandemic in Chicago no less - do city restrictions even allow this?). I started texting the front desk regarding this issue close to midnight and they assured me that they had talked to the offending guests but the party kept going on until the wee hours of the morning. Their solution to this issue was to offer US to move rooms in the middle of the night instead of “inconveniencing” the rule breaking guests. I have honestly had better service regarding this type of issue at a Hampton Inn. The fact that the staff at the Waldorf Astoria cannot ensure guests can sleep in peace and quiet - which is a pretty basic function of a hotel- leaves a lot to be desired. The result was that I was unable to get any sleep and felt completely dismissed and ignored by the hotel staff. This is not the type of experience one expects from a luxury hotel with luxury prices and it definitely ruined our stay. Bottom line is that I will not be staying here again. The lack of urgency by the staff to addressing the noise complaint tells me that their staff either doesn’t care or isn’t properly trained to effectively deal with simple issues. As far as Chicago stays, we will stick to the Four Seasons or the Peninsula instead who offer five star service and much better ambiance. I’d recommend you stay there instead as well. We have had very pleasant stays at these hotels. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Limited on the Luxury due to COVID

Nov 28th, 2020

Hotel was beautiful and the staff was friendly, due to COVID restrictions the luxury aspect of the week long stay was disappointing. Limited room service, limited spa services available no in room dining for the first four days !!! We ordered Uber eats which worked out for the most part, and we had an instacart sent up. Wanted to enjoy spa services however that was limited as well. Food that was available was ok menu limited as well... living a limited life for a week was different... I did enjoy curbside shopping at the luxury shops located within walking distance to the hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
