Basically good

Dec 28th, 2018

I stayed at the Walmer Lodge Apartments with a group of work colleagues during our visit to Barbados. I found the apartments to be clean and functional - just what we required. Our hosts were very welcoming and friendly and left us to our own devices throughout. Our apartments were cleaned every day apart from Sunday. The apartments are located a short walk away from a perfect beach, but also next to a busy and noisy road. The bus stop is located right outside the apartments. The apartments were basic, clean, cheap and located in an area that was convenient for the beach and the bus into town. What the apartment lacked in glamour and luxury it made up for in practicality and authenticity. Basically good... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Bad on so many levels!

Feb 24th, 2017

This location was booked last minute because my original place was not yet available until the next day. Upon arrival you had to ring a bell, which would be odd for a lodge( as they claim). A very nice lady opened the door and there stood directly behind her a picture of Jesus on the wall. While I believe in Jesus, I found it odd to have this type of display. Once she showed us the room, I was in shock! The couch was dirty, the refrigerator was small and out dated. It reminded me of something from the 1970s. I was into the bathroom and the drain stopper was filled with dirt and mildew. The bedroom had sheets that I wouldn't lay my dog on. I am not a picky person, but I refuse to leave my home in NYC, to travel to Barbados to live like a bum....not me. The problem is that the people that WORK and LIVE at the lodge don't really mind how this place looks because they live this way, not me. After making this 30minute assessment, we decided to immediately checkout. The lodge manager wasn't available so I called expedia when I arrived back to NY for a refund. The manage told expedia that I used the shower and remained in the room for hours ( so not true). Anyway, I am still trying to get a refund and its been weeks so don't trust this guy or anything he says. Beware! What you see is not what you will get so don't look at the photos online. While you are paying $89 a night to stay here, its well worth $ 10 a night. Don't do it! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

They never pick-up us up from the airport as promised!

Left and my family stranded at 3:00AM with no place to stay. We are traveling with my 2 daughters 9 & 11. Thanks goodness for the kind taxi driver who stayed with us the whole time until we could get new accommodations. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Value, Your Enjoyment Depends on your Reason for Travel

Sep 13th, 2016

So, I was looking for a place to stay in Barbados. This hotel was one of the cheapest I could find that didn't look like a total dump. I saw some negative reviews, but thought for the price, I had to give it a chance. How much you enjoy this property depends on your reason for travel. You're in Barbados. You're 50 yards from the beach (probably less). The place looks dated, but that is a large part of the charm. If you want some fancy resort hotel, you can spend 5 times as much. Or you could just stay home, and not experience the beauty of the island and the friendliness of the people. I feel that I got the REAL Barbados experience, for a fraction of the price. One piece of advice: don't believe Google maps. They got me close to the hotel, but I was wandering around a residential neighbourhood at 11 at night. If you're driving (but the hotel is on a major bus route, you'll probably not have to wait more than five minutes for public transport), follow the map to the last roundabout, continue around to the other side of the roundabout, look for the Esso station, and the hotel isn't much farther up the road. Sadly, I don't know if I will ever have a chance to return to Barbados (it's a big world, and there's so much more to see), but I have fond memories of my visit, and this hotel definitely made the trip even better. If I ever did find myself lucky enough to get back to the Island, I would not hesitate to stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

What you see is what you get

Again, have now spent our 13th. annual visit to Walmer Lodge for 8 weeks. Not the most luxurious place in Barbados, but, if you like the best beaches and great hospitality, this is the place for you. Hospitality is second to none. Keep up the good work. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
