Wonderful Weekend Getaway

Feb 10th, 2020

My daughter and I had an amazing weekend in Charleston and would definitely stay again. It was once a 34 room mansion built in the 1800’s. We had one of the three dog friendly rooms on the lower level with a separate entrance to easily get to the garden and dog relief area. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed coffee in the living room starting at 7 am, a amazing full breakfast (included in room rate) each morning at Circa 1886 and wine and hors oeuvres in the sun room at 5pm nightly. It is an easy walk to many great restaurants and shopping and we didn’t use our car all weekend. Don’t miss the view of Charleston from the roof deck (take elevator to the 4th floor and climb spiral staircase). Book early as there are only 21 rooms at this boutique hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Lovely stay at Lovely Place

Feb 9th, 2020

You better plan some extra time to really enjoy this charming place. We stayed only one night and had a packed program for our stay in Charleston and were a bit disappointed that we didn't have more time to just be in the Wentworth Mansion. Absolutely recommend this place away from the hubbub of King Street, but close enough to just walk everywhere. Wonderfully helpful and kind staff made this the perfect place to be. Potential 5 Stars when music "problem" solved!l

Feb 5th, 2020

My wife and I recently spent three nights here. So much of what is written by other reviewers is totally accurate so I would not repeat it all in detail. A quick summary covers fascinating building, exemplary luggage removal from our car and back in again on departure from a personable and attentive young man. Helpful receptionist progressing a quick check-in. A large elegant bedroom with a supremely comfortable bed, large bathroom with all amenities. We had magnificent dinners twice in the adjacent circa 1886 restaurant and three memorable breakfasts. What a joy to have a menu and have all items brought to your table - no ubiquitous buffet here. So to turn to my heading what is the music problem? It's the constant scribble music that is inflicted on you all the time. (Scribble music = over loud, non melodic, tuneless modern jazz). We first heard it checking in, on going into our bedroom it was set up on the TV, and turned back on again every morning by the cleaner. It was constantly on in the lounge and conservatory area. Nice to try and talk to fellow guests during complementary drinks and nibbles but only when you raised your voice loud enough over the piped jazz. Think you might get away from this in 1886? No way it's there in the evening and again every breakfast except surprisingly on our last breakfast on Sunday morning. I came to the conclusion that the piped music must be on in the hotel 24 hours a day. That was bad enough but what was even worse is that the genre never changed. Always the same over-loud jangling cacophony. I understand that some places feel obliged to inflict piped music on their guests but here it never changed. What about some Vivaldi, or light opera, maybe Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin or in fact anybody to break the dreadful monotony of the scribble music. I close by posing a rhetorical question. Why is it done? Do the owners seriously think that it improves their hotel? Do they think there are visitors who when deciding which hotel to stay in choose Wentworth Mansion because of this piped music? For us, and maybe other guests, it would be a big negative and we would be less likely to return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Southern Charm & Excellence

Feb 3rd, 2020

Our stay was a weekend of rest, relaxation, and superb service. It truly felt like we were staying in a luxury home versus a hotel. When we arrived it was raining and we were met at our vehicle by a young man who assisted with our luggage. Check-in was quick and seamless. By the time we got to our room our baggage was already there and my coat was hanging in the closet. The room was spacious, clean, and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was large with a Jacuzzi tub, and a large shower. The bed was absolutely comfortable and I got great rest. There is a small refrigerator next to the bed with water and soda (included). In the evening there was wine and hors d’oeuvres in the parlor. The atmosphere was friendly and it created the opportunity to meet other guests. The restaurant, Circa 1886, was absolutely fantastic. Breakfast was included with our stay and was not the typical ‘all-inclusive’ breakfast. The breakfast menu has several options and every day there was a daily special. I highly recommend the shrimp and grits and the frittata. You also have the option of orange juice, apple juice, or cranberry juice, and coffee. The breakfast also includes pastries and a small plate of fruit. I also had dinner at Circa 1886 and it was so amazing that I will have to write a separate review for it. The spa is small but charming and relaxing. We had an amazing couples massage. The mansion is walking distance from shopping and restaurants. I truly enjoyed my stay and I definitely plan on returning. PS - we did the Romance package and it was well worth it (includes accommodations, fresh flowers, spa service for 2, and one night of dinner) TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

Jan 31st, 2020

We recently celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Mansion. This was our second stay there and the way were were treated on our previous stay was the main reason we wanted to return. We were not disappointed!! The staff went above and beyond to ensure our celebration was first class. The many personal touches by the staff made the overall visit a delightful experience. The complimentary bottle of Champagne placed in our room while we were at dinner is a good example. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
