Seemingly unconcerned with COVID-19

The morning after our first night's stay, I got up to make coffee and noticed that one of the packets with sugar, powdered cream and stirrers was already opened and the stirrers were missing. In any other year, this would be an inconvenience at the least but, these days, it was very concerning. If housekeeping had missed this, what else hadn't they picked up, exchanged or cleaned? I took the opened packet to the front desk and explained the situation to the lady working there. She took down my room number and my phone number and said someone would be calling me. Nobody ever did. A few days after we checked out I received an email from the West Inn with a survey. I took the survey and, again, explained what had happened with hopes that the company would take more time to more thoroughly clean the rooms between guests. Did they read my survey? Was anything done? I don't know. No one has reached out. I sure hope something has changed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We had high hopes when going there that it would meet our expectations from prior rankings. Our first room kept having trouble with the TV turning off during the World Series. And then the air conditioning changed to heat in the middle of the night and we had to change rooms at 1 AM. The new room was lovely but near where the maids filled their carts so quite noisy. The hotel itself has the interstate five on one side and the railroad on the other side. It is quite well insulated though. We actually look back on our three night visit as being not too bad in spite of all of the difficulties. The staff was wonderful and really tried hard. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We stayed here for 2 nights. It was very clean. Both the room, bathroom and hotel grounds outside were very clean. Cleanliness of the rooms and property are always very important to me when we go on a trip and stay somewhere. Nothing worse than sleeping in a dirty room and showering in a dirty bathroom. We all slept very well both nights. Beds were comfortable. The towels and bedding smelled fresh and clean. The front desk staff was very friendly. All staff that we saw smiled and greeted us. They let us use their beach chairs and boogie boards free of charge. So nice! We would stay here again if in the area and not able to stay right on the beach. It would have been nicer if restaurant was open and they had the breakfast. Understandable why it wasn’t open due to COVID but hopefully they can open soon in future. Would be so great to have a nice dinner right on the property and walk to room. The breakfast area looked so nice. The pool was nice and they had a ping pong table by the pool which our family of four really enjoyed. Oh, they had really cute Halloween decorations up! Would not hesitate to stay here again! I hope it’s just as clean and nice next time we visit Carlsbad! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Comfortable and Quiet Stay

Hotel is in a great location. It was comfortable and very clean. Staff members are very helpful and they treat their guests as guests should be treated. Pool and outside hot tub were available with social distancing. Pool area was nice and clean and the hot tub was at a nice temperature. Rooms were spacious and very clean. The rooms had a fridge, coffee maker, and a microwave. My husband and I needed a short getaway and this was perk. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
They really screwed things up. No account security

I had a reservation for one nite so I could visit with my nephew. The hotel made the reservation in the name of my significant others business account rather than in my name like I asked. Then They used his email to say he had reservation. When he told me I called West inn to let them know NOT to use his account. Instead of cancelling the reservation on his account, they just made a new reservation in my name. I stayed the one night and paid with my credit card, however they charged the credit card he had on file, to sign in online, for 2 nights as a NO SHOW!! Luckily his credit card called him and he told them to dispute charges and issue a credit card with a new number for FRAUD. Then he called West inn and the front desk lady said manager would return call in 5 minutes after she took info. 20 min later he had to call manager, who never returned call. He never got to speak to manager since Avery rude and confrontation woman, Devonia spoke with him while I listened. We could hear the male manager in the background telling her what to say, including them accusing me of giving his credit card number when I don’t even know the number. How RUDE!! They refused to look into the account security for him, were completely unhelpful and accusatory, then told him to call General Manager Vicki the next day when she is in hotel. My significantl other and I have stayed at hotel for over 6 years and have noted a significant degradation of customer service, the physical plant and increased rudeness of the surly staff. AVOID THUS HOTEL and stay at Hilton. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
