Great location - great for only using hotel to sleep

Nov 24th, 2019

We stayed on the 8th floor, private single bunk room with shared bathroom. The location was perfect and super amazing for the price, but then obviously the quality must be sacrificed. The halls and rooms look quite old and grungey, rooms are tiny which i expected that, but the bathrooms are suuuper annoying. You're lucky to get hot water at all, one of the 3 showers on our floor didnt even work, and then they shut the whole bathroom for a week for repairs so we had to go to another level. When the bathroom was open again, the only differences we could see were the 3rd shower worked, and fresh paint on the electrical panels. The showers dont have doors just curtains, and take your necessities in a shopping bag to hang on hooks on the shower curtain otherwise theres no where to put them and your clothes. All in all, a great stay, but would not stay in winter as after a freezing day in the city the last thing you want is a cold shower TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Pleasant Stay, Excellent Gym Facilities

Nov 19th, 2019

A pleasant stay at the YMCA. Stayed in a couple room that had one bunk bed, fairly comfy mattresses and sheets. The pictures included are the views from our window. Excellent gym, swimming pool and changing facilities. Preferred to use the showers on the gym floor as there were more, the cubicles were bigger and felt a lot more secure than in the shared bathrooms by the bedrooms. Staff at reception were also very helpful in accommodating the large group that I were staying with. There is a small cafe/shop that sold items perfect for breakfast, e.g. fruit salads and pastries. The location was excellent, a Starbucks and other eateries down the street and then Central Park being a couple of minute walk. Highly recommended for the money! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

FANTASTIC! Could not fault. Ignore the odd bad reviews.

So we booked this for 3 guys for 4 nights. The location is fantastic, bang in the middle of NYC. Prior to arriving I asked for a larger room which they honoured. We got room 1367 in the top floor (13th). Three bunk beds in a very large room. Comfy beds, with air con and a free safe to use. The toilet shower facilities on the 13th floor were very good. Good size walk in shower shower which was really hot and ample room to get dressed in. Staff were friendly and helpful. Your right by 59th Street Metro which you can get straight to and from the airport. We couldn't fault our stay at the YMCA. We paid £450 for the 4 nights. BARAGIN! If I go back I will return to the Y! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

For price and locality you won't do better.

Visited Hostel in mid November and was blown away by its location, just round the corner from Dumb Towers and across the road from central park. Hostel has a fairly grand facade and is well used by the community and appears to be a hub for many events and obviously the gyms and swimming pools are well patronised by the locals and guests alike. There is a small store within the building but its limited in its offering, however there is ample opportunity locally to pop out and pick up liquid refreshments chips and snacks. Its location of proximity to the Colombus Circle 59th street subway means it really is the gateway to all things to see on your visit. The rooms are small and are cleaned every day with new towels and bedding, there is even a small TV to watch after a hard days sightseeing and yes the beds are not palatial in size but I never had any problem in sleeping on them. Toilets were shared busy at times, but I always found them clean and perfectly usable. In short if your looking for a penthouse apartment over looking central park, you are barking up the wrong tree, but if you are looking for somewhere to base yourself while exploring the city which is in a great setting with friendly staff at a bargain price; for Manhattan this is the place for you. Great customer service and folks were pleasant.

Visit in October and it was still warm, we slept with window open as the AC unit did not output enough cool air. Not sure if I would survive a summer with current AC unit. Customer service was excellent and location was perfect. The luggage storage was a bonus for us as we had a free morning before take-off via LIRR. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
