Central but basic.

Aug 15th, 2019

The accommodation was very basic but the single room with bath that I reserved was certainly adequate in that it had an air conditioner, TV & mini frig. The bed was very comfortable and there were enough towels. The AC was a little noisy but I did appreciate having one as it was a particularly hot week. I did appreciate having the mini frig as it was easy to pick up food and leave it in the room. The best part of the accommodation was that it was reasonably priced and very central to everything. The building was very clean and the service was competent. Just be prepared for very basic accommodation. I found that the central location more than made up for the lack of fancy amenities. Adventure! Clean, Quiet, Simple, Great Price... don't get me started on the GYM ;)

Jul 2nd, 2019

Delighted! We had a double room with shared bath for 5 nights. No carpet in the room, totally clean, great view out over central park, elevators worked great, unusually quiet. Of course we've stayed many times in much higher end hotels in Manhattan (and paid 2-3X the price), but this is a special place. If you want a great workout while you're in town then seriously consider staying at the Y. Staff is super friendly, wash and fold across the street does first 10lbs for $12, espresso drinks for sale downstairs, and lots of young international travelers. It's possible that some of the low star reviews were before the renovation? Bed was totally comfortable, sheets a little thin but who cares? Seriously, the value here is super -- it's Central Park West people! If you want to blow all the money you save by staying here on shows and great meals (we did!) well... this can be a great option. Enjoy NYC! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location but overall terrible hostel

Jun 23rd, 2019

The only good thing about this hostel is the location, Central Park is literally a few steps away. The room is very small, bunkbeds very insteady and makes a lot of noise. Bathroom was terrible, there are only two bathrooms for the whole floor (and there are a lot of rooms!), The woman bathroom had 3 showers, but only one works!! Toilets were oke but fast out of toiletpaper. You have to pay $10 dollar for a membership for gym and pool, even if you are not going to use those facilities! No kitchen or refrigerator, no lockers for bags in room. Even for this price I wouldn’t stay at this place again! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Loved it here

Jun 6th, 2019

I stayed here for three weeks and it was brilliant! I got the single deluxe room which was a decent size, had a lamp, two towels, body soap, face soap and three blankets! Everything was clean and i got a great view of central park! Housekeeping was done every day, i never had to worry about clean towels. It was also nice and quiet. I slept great. So it falls short of a 5 star review for one small incident. I had a bug in my room, i went downstairs to tell someone to get it out and the guy i spoke too looked like he did not wanna deal with me, was very rude, even though there was no one else around. The maintenance guy was very nice but the reception guy was not nice. But that's my only gripe. This place is cheap and in prime location. They also have a small cafe downstairs which was a godsend when it was raining. ps - ask for the 13th floor. I stayed on both the 13th and 12th floor and by far the 13th floor is way better. Not for the faint hearted

Thin bed blanket. Checked the sheets - they were clean. One pillow and one extra blanket. Two rather worn out towels. Bring slippers for the flooring. It all needs an update. But checking hotel prices, they start at $250+, so from that point of view, it’s an ok deal. Great location. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
