Disappointed in Boardwalk Inn

Jul 13th, 2020

I would like to begin by saying that we love Wild Dunes. Our family has been coming here for 20 years. We have stayed in most of the different accommodations over the years. We chose the Boardwalk Inn for an anniversary getaway during this trip. I have to say that I am very disappointed by the state of the room. The hotel, actual boardwalk and Grand Pavilion are in need of a major renovation. I have attached photos below. The frame around our balcony doors is rusted and exposed, the balcony is filthy (Needs pressure washing), there is visible dust on the walls and the refrigerator was not cleaned. It is sad that such a beautiful spot has not been properly maintained and updated. We still enjoyed our trip but left feeling disappointed and thinking the longer drive to the newer resorts on 30A May be a better bet for us. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Couldn't wait to leave

Jul 2nd, 2020

We were booked at Wild Dunes Resort (Boardwalk Inn) for three nights, but opted to leave early and stay at a friend's house after our experience at the property. Resort staff did not abide by the pool reservation system, a COVID precautionary measure to limit the number of people using the pools. This resulted in extremely overcrowded pools with few options for social distancing. The two pools at the Grand Pavilion are very small (think backyard swimming pool), not what one expects to find at a 4 star beach resort. In-room cleaning has been temporarily suspended due to COVID, but there was little evidence of any efforts to clean public spaces, wipe down door handles, elevator buttons or other high touch surfaces. We paid for a junior hotel suite and were given a dark and dingy room next to a noisy elevator that kept us up half the nights. The furnishings were dated and in poor condition, the patio door was broken and the air conditioning didn't cool the bedroom. We had to call the front desk multiple times asking for sheets and towels that never arrived. To add insult, the resort charges a $15 per item fee ($20 if you reserve on the spot) for worn out beach chairs and umbrellas in addition to a beach fee and a resort fee, which would normally cover such items. When I asked what the resort fee did cover I was told that it was "for wireless internet and furniture in the rooms." Overall, the Wild Dunes Resort was not a four star experience and seems far out of step with the Hyatt brand. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Liked the island more than hotel

Jul 1st, 2020

If it wasn’t for COVID and the fact that we Loved the area of IOP and Mt Pleasant, would give this hotel 3 stars. They charge $150 for beach maintenance and don’t provide beach chairs and umbrellas for free. In fact, they charge $15 per item if you reserve it ahead of time and $20 if you reserve it on a spot. So for family of 4 it comes to $100 a day for beach chair and umbrellas!! Ridiculous, right?! And they know how ridiculous it is so the hotel recommended IOP beach chair Co that rents chairs and umbrellas for 1/3 of their price. But why do I have to do all of this during my vacation especially after paying $400 a night for a room. The rooms aren’t cleaned due to COVID but they replace towels and take out garbage if you call front desk. The problem is half of the time no one picks up the phone when you dial 0!!! You need to reserve a pool spot due to COVID. We stayed a week and when we got there all time slots were booked! At first we were very upset but if you come 30 min after reserved time and no one is there, they will let you use it. But it’s not all bad. The rooms are nice. Coastal provisions restaurant is fantastic. Hyues restaurant was just ok. The area is beautiful with amazing restaurants at Mt Pleasant which is 15-20 min drive away. Charleston is 35 min drive and is charming Probably won’t be back to this resort though TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

So many problems with the room

Jun 24th, 2020

We stayed at Wild Dunes Port of Call!!!! When we originally booked it we paid a little extra becuSe it was a deluxe condo and I think newly renovated. We got a call 2 days after we booked it saying we couldn’t stay there it was under renovation which I’m not sure why they could book it if it wasn’t available!!!! They tried to put us in a 3 bedroom condo which we only needed 1 bedroom and the place looked so outdated definitely not what we paid for. After calling back multiple times and speaking to someone different they were able to book us at Port of Call where we were originally booked at but a different condo. We got there at 11 something on Thursday and the code they gave us didn’t woke so had to call guest services multiple times to get them to fix it. The air worked in the condo except in the bedroom so we had to call maintenance at 11:30 at night!!!! He said it was broke and they would have to get someone out to fix it tomorrow. We asked if they had a fab and was told they didn’t have a fan on the whole property!!!! I spent the majority of the next day calling about the air in our room and trying to get it fixed. They said they would fix it but we ended up getting a floor AC unit that was so loud and cut on and off every 20 minutes so it kept us awake so there is 2 days with little sleep. Called the next day to let them know it was too loud and it was keeping us up and they said they were calling the property manager right away and they were going to get a contractor out there 1st thing that morning. Hours went by and we never got a call back from guest services updating us on anything and we never saw anyone come to our room. I called back multiple times because you can never get through to guest services and finally got someone and asked why they didn’t call me back? They were busy but they were sending maintenance out to get us a quieter AC unit that didn’t cut on and off. They came and said that they didn’t have 1. So once again no one ever came to fix our air and we had to put up with a loud standing AC unit all weekend!!!! Also there was a sign on the pool saying it was closed so I called guest services and they said it was open but told them their was a sign on it saying it was closed they have no idea what is going on. There was people swimming there but I just wanted to make sure it was safe for me and my family to swim there and she said you can swim at your own risk!!!! I was told by a guest that there was a problem with the light and the gate and that is why it was closed so we got to go swimming in the pool. It the sign that said pool closed stayed up all weekend!!!! They did compensate us for our problems but we had too many problems with our room!!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

No room at the inn, double booked

Jun 19th, 2020

We had reservations with confirmation number fro 6 nights June 14-21, 2020. There were 4 adults, two 8 yr. olds, looking at a fun week right on the beach in a private home in the resort. After driving in two fully packed cars and 6 hrs of driving to get there, we were checking in a few minutes after 4pm, check in time, we were told someone else was in the house and we were turned away. The options were to stay somewhere else inside the resort, not on the beach, 2 nights in one house, 3 nights in another, and finish our reservation in a different house. Not acceptable. They suggested we find a hotel somewhere and try again to come back, or get a refund and leave the resort grounds. This was shocking enough, but the first and second times dealing with This resort on two other family occasions was terrible as well with unsatisfactory ( switched) accommodations and next, an almost two hour wait for the reservation “confusion” To be worked out. Never will we go back to this incompetently run enterprise. We had to drive another six hours to get home. No offer to comp our meals (lunch and ) dinner or gasoline consumption for both cars, each of which made a 665 round trip in one day. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
