Nice beach place, but indifferent staff service this time

Nov 13th, 2019

We found the Winstead Beach Resort itself to be the same pleasant retreat as in our past visits. However service from the staff -- common, basic hospitality service -- was lacking at times during our stay. In brief: We stayed at the beach resort for several days this fall during what was probably a less-busy week for the establishment. We would occasionally see a couple of the managers/hosts that we knew from previous visits, but they stayed out of sight for most of the week. It seemed to us that the hotel staff was pretty-much running things. That apparent arrangement wasn't as pleasant as previous stays but is was generally OK overall. (..Though we found that the staff wasn't very good at locking the building's front door on some nights.) Except -- markedly-- during arrival and again during our departure: (To sum up:) Both of us our travelers in our sixties (age), but still able to "schlep" luggage out of the car, up a flight of stairs, etc. Although we were told at check-in (at the main hotel) that someone would be contacted to meet us to help with bags (as in past years), no one was in sight upon our arrival less than ten minutes later. We didn't see a bell and didn't feel like searching for someone so we dragged our luggage upstairs to our room. When it came time to depart we (admittedly) didn't ask in advance for assistance, but two hotel staff members happened to be standing and talking next to the stairs as we brought down our luggage -- right in front of them. They continued talking with no offer of assistance. In fact one employee was actually standing slightly in our way as he continued to talk. The front door to the building was about ten feet away as we carried out the bags, but neither employee made any effort to hold that open for their departing guests. The two staff members soon walked away ...in opposite directions from where we continued to move out our 'stuff'. FWIW, we're quiet guests who usually 'go find our own fun'. On this trip we tipped as usual and placed no extra demands upon the hotel staff. ..We'll give the beach resort building + grounds four stars, but our arrival/departure treatment was the definition of shabby. We'll be trying another place for next year. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Last minute stay -

Sep 30th, 2019

Ended up staying here by a mere happy accident; as our originally planned B&B had an emergency and was unable to accommodate us. Place was great; friendly, clean, and close to Harwich port Center as well! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Just what we were dreaming...a very charming English decor with sophisticated taste, and wonderful homemade breakfast. Just perfect. Our suite was directly out on the pool deck and the service was stellar. We ll definitely ho back there for a very romantic week end. Don t miss the best sesfood restaurant very close by: Brax. Great location - perfect for a short beachside stay on the Cape!

Aug 19th, 2019

I'm surprised that more people don't stay here. We found this place online years ago and had my parents stay at the in-town location while we rented a house nearby. I thought it was cute and clean then. This past weekend, my family of 4 (2 high schoolers) stayed at the beach resort and really enjoyed it. We wanted a place that was easily accessible to Provincetown for a day trip, as well as the neighboring towns of Orleans, Chatham and Dennisport for some dining and shopping that we had on our list. What we didn't realize (or remember) and was a bonus is that the beach resort is less than a 5 minute easy walk into Harwichport! While there isn't really shopping to do there, other than a new general store and a kite shop, it was great to walk over for lunch and dinner at different points. My husband and I loved that we could enjoy a drink on the beach at sunset at Winstead (they have wine glasses and bottle openers in the common area, all very clean) and a mini fridge in each room for storing a few things, and then, later walked into town for an 8:30 dinner at the Port. Super easy and no worries about driving, parking, etc. We also liked that the continental breakfast was from 8 to 10 and was very informal. We have a daughter with a dairy allergy, so it was nice for her to be able to have hardboiled eggs, fruit and juice, and they even had choices of coconut or almond milk for her to have with cereal. Our son loved all the baked goods and we enjoyed the yogurt and warm banana bread, so everyone was happy! We loved taking our coffee outside in the rockers and then strolling the beach before the day got underway. They also have an outdoor shower, hammocks, tons of beach loungers, beach towels and a bathroom in the common area, plus a water bubbler, so you really have all you need for a beach day. As for the room itself, it's what I would consider a very traditional Cape Cod nautical/old school style, but very clean and Cape-y. We really thought it was great. One of my teens was wishing there was more "action," in the form of restaurants, music and the like, but the rest of us thought it was great for some family time. The beach has ample room to throw a frisbee and just enjoy each other. We had contemplated staying at the in-town location because of the pool, but really liked not having to go back/forth to enjoy early mornings and sunset on the beach, so we're very happy with our decision. In comparison, I had looked at Chatham Bars and Wequassett Inn, but both were about $200 to $400 more per night without breakfast, so I highly recommend it if you are happy making your own fun and just enjoying each other. Perfect Place!

This inn is absolutely beautiful, it's in a great location (very close to the beach, and many cool places to visit, see and shop) the employees are so kind and helpful, and the inn offers wonderful amenities. Breakfast was very good and the whole place just has a peaceful and relaxing vibe to it. Highly recommend! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
