Couples weekend ruined

This is place is very nice. The location ended up being very ideal for the activities we had in mind to do. So i was very excited. We had been waiting for this getaway for months. Came from St. Louis. It was very hard to get request we called for like clean sheets, towels fulfilled. We shouldn't have had to ask for these things anyway. It was like whatever we asked for or needed, they had no sense of urgency. We could just...wait. Spent of the waiting for common things just to get comfortable than we did exploring the city. The reason we came. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
wonderful view from our 16th floor window

We stayed here during the quiet season so almost had it to ourselves. Our check-in was quick and the staff helpful - lent us umbrellas when it was raining. The doorman with the bowler hat (sorry I never asked his name) was also full of friendly advice. Our river-view window gave us a perfect vista of the river, ranging from the Wrigley Building, Trump Tower, the Corncobs and the river and bridges as far as where it splits to go north and south. At night it was super view, despite a bit of fog on the first night. And right nearby is a great bakery that serves a great breakfast with a view onto the passers by on Wacker Ave. The hotel is in a great location for Michigan Ave, both walking south (to the parks and museums) or north (the Magnificent Mile shops). We had a beautiful river view room! Fast elevators, friendly front desk. Upon return after first day we realized there was no controller for the TV, I went down asked about it and they sent one right up. Clean rooms, clean bed, I dont know if my room up "updated" but it was on the 26th floor 2601, right beside the elevator but I never heard a thing! Nice Kurig coffee maker, seating area and view! All i need! It is right in the middle of it all. Walking distance to everywhere, 15 min to navy pier, 3min to the beginning of Michigan Ave shopping 20 min to 360 Chicago, 8 min to Wildberry pancakes and food all around! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Great bellhop that’s it

It’s in a great central location with access to tons of taxi’s and Ubers but the front desk and everyone but the bellhops were useless! Also they charged $20 to rent a microwave for less that 2 mins which is absurd TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I am writing to let you how disappointed I was with my stay at Royal Sonesta Chicago. Reservation: 10054SC007374 I am an Elite member thanks to a status match and was excited for my first stay at one of your properties particularly with it being a Royal Sonesta. The lobby is drab and cramped and does not have a dedicated check in area for Preferred or Elite Members. The two people staffing the desk were devoid of professionalism and polish and were light on knowledge. My room was on the 34th floor and, perhaps, that was an upgrade. No mention was made of a complimentary room upgrade or any of these other Elite member benefits: Choice of welcome amenity, Complimentary non-alcoholic beverage, Discounted suite upgrade, Complimentary club lounge access (or continental breakfast daily). The room and bathroom were spacious. The view was wide open. However, there were tears in the carpeting, stains in the bathtub, a poorly painted closet door and very worn furniture. I have pictures if you would like them. In my profile, it states I prefer a room away from the elevator. Mine was right next to it. After having dinner at Hoyt's on Monday March 2nd I visited the front desk again to inquire about the free breakfast. The gentleman behind the desk accommodated me but made no apology for that not having been covered during check in. I. also, asked for a later checkout. He said he could do Noon. I said, "As an Elite member I can get up 2pm." His reply was "I've never heard of that. I can do 1. Ok, I can do 2." This morning, March 3rd, I had the American breakfast in Hoyt's and added an orange juice to my order. (Please note: both meals were delicious and the restaurant helpful, knowledgeable and polite.) There is no way to checkout from your room online or via the TV so I checkout at the front desk. I was given a receipt and asked for a copy to be emailed to me. The woman at the desk who was also present for my checking in was less than pleasant and seemed irritated by request for an email. Upon getting in my Uber to the airport, I reviewed the bill and noticed there was no 15% Elite discount on my dinner or the juice at breakfast (which, in fact, should be my free non-alcoholic beverage). Please adjust my bill to reflect the above. And, know that I will never stay at the hotel again and will not likely stay at another Sonesta property in the future. It was a failure in every way. I will. go back to staying at the InterContinental. I did not feel Elite and this place is, by no means, Royal. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
