Dated room

Feb 5th, 2020

Firstly can I just say that all the staff I encountered were so friendly and helpful. Cant fault them at all. It's just a shame that the rooms are so dated. The wallpaper scuffed and tired, fittings dated, bathroom pokey and honestly a tad grubby. Seals around fittings not so new or clean. The upside thankfully was the huge comfy queen size bed. Had it not been for that I think I would have wanted some of the £169 back!! The price for the room, a basic double may I add had me expecting something bigger ( photos add metres), I was fairly disappointed and a view of the front of building and the road outside. I still think even though I loved the bed, I expected a lot more for the price. In summary, I would not stay here again. Oh and the pool that we thought we might try was full 9f children and had a big window that all and sundry on the car parks surrounding it could see. Thats not my idea of a spa hotel. Great staff, great bed. That's it. Overpriced TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Romantic stay

Jan 28th, 2020

Stayed here again but it’s been a while as we were a little disappointed at our last visit. I can only say the hotel has definitely improved. The rooms were fresh and the beds were so comfortable and you could even request your desired pillow preference. The tv was massive and had a great selection of programmes. You could also make a cuppa and we were near the ice machine which helped to chill our wine. The gardens are lovely and we could see the race course. It was busy but there was ample free parking. We took advantage of the pool, jacuzzi and sauna which was great. We tried food from the bar menu and a drink which was very nice but a bit pricey. The breakfast was excellent, it was delicious and it catered for everyone’s taste including full English, continental, fresh fruit and meats would definitely recommend if you stay to try the breakfast. If you are going into York centre you can catch the bus from outside or the reception will order you a taxi. It’s only about a mile or so out of town. Well worth a visit for any occasion. We have been in the summer and it’s great to sit outside in the garden area and enjoy the sun. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Rooms need updating

Jan 25th, 2020

The location is ideal for what we wanted, not a long walk into the city and nice airy rooms, however needs a massive refurb, the bathroom is dirty, opened the cupboard door to find an empty space surly if you are going to take out a fridge/mini bar put something in its place. The leisure area small and dirty, appalled to be told 1 towel policy when entering if had known would have brought towels, surly can not be expected to sauna on the same towel to dry on. Tried to check in and hour early told no so said can you call when the room is ready to be told no just come back in an hour, decided to relax in the pool but not much look as 15 toddlers arrived to have a lesson, wish had been told, would have just had a drink in the bar. Shame as really looking forward to a relaxing 2 nights away. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

York Marriott terrible worst in UK

Jan 25th, 2020

This was the worst Marriott I ever stayed in,poor management staff are not friendly or polite some are completely useless and not trained to deal with guests. Room was good size however the bathroom sink was so filthy I had to buy antibacterial wipes to clean it (photo attached) the phone in the room did not work I asked for it to be seen and fixed on 8 occasions the reception never fixed this on my 4 days stay ridiculous I couldn't even phone room service or reception I had to go down each time to reception . The curtains was so dirty dusty and filthy looks like not washed in years and the bathroom shower was tarnished and cracks. For the Spa on my 4 days there was no staff on duty only on the sunday there was 1 man so was difficult to get in if nobody is on duty there ridiculous really. The Spa pool is located where anyone can walk by from the outside and look in not good if your a parent with kids the windows need to be blanked out or have blinds its the only spa I been to in my 30 years of travel with no blanked out windows . Absolutely shocking and disgusting The breakfast was vile!! Fried eggs were so cold and had been left out for hours but Stone cold inside disgusting thst they are left out for guests like this .All other food cold only thing hot was toast! It gives Marriott a bad name The hotel corridors had a very bad odour too. Worst Marriott in the world and have stayed in over 45 Marriotts this is worst Marriott ever! 0/10 sorry but this is one to avoid TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
