Poor service

Jul 20th, 2019

Two weeks prior to our trip, I called the hotel and made a reservation for two nights with parking included. The day of our reservation, may wife and I arrived around 11 pm. The front desk staff member confirmed our room but denied the parking. We showed her our reservation confirmation and she then questioned if the person next to her if he made that reservation. We informed her it was made two weeks ago not that night. She seemed confused but agreed to the deal. She then charged me nearly $150 more than our agreed price. I had to again bring out the email with clearly listed the previously agreed upon amount. She then refunded us the difference. She gave us our room keys and much to our surprise, the room was actually someone else's room -- baggage on the floor, bed unmade, food/drinks and belongings on the counter. We were stunned, and so thankful no one was in the room to add to our embarrassment. This has never happened to me in all my years of travel. The entire check in process was poor, she was very distracted and even admitted it. Once we got our own room it ended up being a nice weekend, despite our very disappointing first night after a very long day of work and four hours of travel. I wrote management on two separate occasions and got zero response back. The customer service for this level of hotel was honestly one of the worst I have experienced. The only exception was the door man who was incredibly nice and helpful. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Having asked our cab driver to drop us at the Dana , we realised it had undergone a buyout- no notification from the hotel . Our king room was small & had wallpaper peeling off & chipped furniture. I generally like to come away to something as good as my own home or nicer ! Checkin was bizarre - run by clueless youth . The concierge looked liked they’d borrowed their dads suits & both times asked for recommendations, couldn’t offer any assistance. We returned after a day out to find the room cleaned , but stinking of cannabis. Weird . Then on checkout we too were told we had to pay room service - we didn’t have room service . A genuine mistake or a scam to make money ?? Not the “boutique “ we expected . . TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

DO NOT DO IT! After arriving home we got an alert that we had been charged $39 for a “mini bar” charge that we were not responsible for! Either they did not do correct inventory before we arrived, they were hoping I would not notice the extra charge, or they made a mistake. But when I tried to speak with the front desk to resolve this issue he raised his voice and was very rude and confrontational. Either reason behind this, it is NOT correct to charge people for things they did not use! We travel often but will never use them again and do not recommend them. Customer service goes a long way, and they are severely lacking in this regard! VERY UNETHICAL TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

No Longer A Charming Boutique Hotel

Jun 25th, 2019

The Dana Hotel was recently sold to Eurostars, and things have changed. This past weekend at the hotel, we were awakened at 11:15 p.m. by a phone call, and then a knock on our door, by the hotel manager, who said that our reservation was "pending" in the computer and that he needed to know our check-out date. We had confirmed our reservation twice before our arrival and were annoyed at the disturbance, as well as mystified as to why the matter couldn't wait until the morning. The next day, when we spoke with him further and sought an apology, he doubled down, not only refusing to apologize but insisting that he "would do it again, every time". We have stayed at this hotel at least 100 times since it opened as the Dana about 15 years ago. We loved so many things about it: the floor-to-ceiling windows, the incredibly friendly and helpful staff (much of which has been replaced by Eurostars), the walkable location, the boutique feel. Our extended family has stayed here numerous times for events like weddings, graduations, and birthday celebrations. These factors helped us overlook quirks like the frequently-malfunctioning elevators, irritating noise on the floors closest to the rooftop deck, lack of turndown service, and overserved guests wandering the halls and spilling drinks. However, since Eurostars took over, corporate rigidness has completely erased the boutique feel. We will not be staying here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Feel the Noise

Jun 16th, 2019

This is a really nice place. Some oddities though, like the glass wall and shower curtain in the bedroom so you can spy your family members sh_tting and showering. If you’re newlyweds, exhibitionists, or college kids who can’t get enough physical action, it seems kind of hip and sexy, I guess. Otherwise it’s creepy, a prelude to the premise of a Dr. Phil Show. ~The staff is great. But the giant clunker at this hotel is the noise from the nightclub on the roof, Apogee. If you like rest or sleep, of any kind, this is not your hotel. The ultra loud techno thumping lasts til 4:30 AM. I could both feel it and hear it through my noise canceling head phones. This ruined my weekend since I wasn’t anticipating two days of sleep deprivation. I cannot be the first to complain about this. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
