Worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel

Dec 13th, 2020

Arrived and tried to check in after a 5 hour drive from London which at the time is in tier 2. Got asked where we’d come from, why we were in Wales, and whether we were key workers. Got told in no uncertain terms that unless we were key workers, we weren’t allowed to stay at the hotel. I then got shown some blurb on a screen explaining this which apparently had been emailed to me. (It hadn’t) I’d also checked the Welsh government website before travelling so I was fairly confident we were allowed to stay, and explained this, but no - we weren’t. It was nearly 9pm, it was cold and dark, and we walked back to our car nearly in tears thinking we’d have to sleep in the car and risk freezing or driving all the way back home. I then went onto booking.com and checked and the rules she’d stated were in place during the England lockdown, which had ended on Dec 2nd. We phoned booking.com to check, and also another hotel. Both confirmed that and told us they shouldn’t have turned us away. Thankfully, the other hotel we phoned were extremely welcoming and we had a wonderful stay there instead. So, why had we been turned away at this hotel? Was it an honest mistake? Do the staff literally not know the current guidelines for being able to stay overnight at a hotel? Interesting that for a hotel so set on the ‘rules’, the receptionist I spoke to wasn’t wearing her mask correctly and the other man, stood behind her with his arms crossed staring at us, wasn’t wearing one at all. Perhaps they’re not keen on same sex couples staying at their hotel? Either way, I won’t be recommending Ibis to anyone and won’t be staying at one again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good Hotel

Nov 19th, 2020

England lockdown restrictions caused a need to rebook to Swansea for 2 stays in the space of a week. Both stays were good - I found the reception service good, the rooms were both very clean and it was a quiet stay. The car park was good with plenty of space and free of charge for guests. I would definitely stay here again. There is currently limited catering at the hotel - there is a McDonalds over the road, and then you can walk into the city in about 15/20 minutes along the waterfront to get to several restaurants. Saturday night most places were fully booked and Sunday evening many places were closed so that is something to be aware of. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Felt rushed to leave

Oct 23rd, 2020

Stayed here multiple times and never had an issue, couldn’t fault the place. For our most recent stay we decided to pay an additional £10 so we could have the later checkout time of 5pm. However, on 4 separate occasions we had the cleaners knocking and trying to enter our room. We explained each time that we’d paid for later checkout and weren’t ready for the room to be cleaned. There had obviously been some kind of miscommunication between staff to alert the cleaners that we didn’t need to checkout of the room at the usual time of 12pm. We ended up leaving our room a lot earlier than we had planned to due to feeling uncomfortable at people continually knocking and trying to enter. Due to this, we also felt rushed to leave. Quiet and comfortable hotel within 15 minute walk of the city centre. Restaurant menu is limited, so I would recommend exploring the centre for dinner. Though book a restaurant in advance to avoid disappointment. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Value

Sep 29th, 2020

Used this hotel as our base for a three day golf weekend. Really can’t fault it, fair price, very clean & smart rooms, nice shower, very reasonable drinks prices for a hotel bar, and great Covid friendly bagged breakfasts to eat in or take away with you. I would definitely use this hotel again if in the area! Thank you. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
