    Sonnenalp Hotel
    Vail, CO
    5-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 5 based on 1279 reviewsTripAdvisor (1279)
    Free Breakfast
    Free WiFi

Towering over central Vail, this chalet-style resort doesn't skimp on coziness. With sweeping vistas of either the Vail Village or Gore Creek, each guest room features Rocky Mountain touches like custom-made Bavarian furniture, gas fireplaces and heated floors. The traditional lodge design carries over into the resort's four dining areas, each boasting wood furnishings and a rustic ambiance. Sonnenalp caters primarily to skiers, and visitors found both the resort's location and the ski concierge service to be extremely convenient. Even if you don't plan on tackling the slopes, you shouldn't rule out this resort; Sonnenalp offers a variety of ways to stay active that don't involve snow. The championship Sonnenalp Golf Club, for example, features 7,100 yards of rolling fairways and pesky sand traps. Meanwhile, the outdoor pool and cozy Sonnenalp Spa both provide a fantastic setting for rest and relaxation. Yet despite all its offerings, guests point to the hotel staff as the main reason to book here. Recent visitors say they were made to feel special by the hotel employees and were even greeted by name upon re-entering the premises. What's more, Leaders Club members get perks like room upgrades and complimentary breakfasts at this hotel. One drawback: this resort is expensive, and daily resort and parking fees will cost you more than you may expect.

This massive Ritz-Carlton resort near the Beaver Creek Ski Resort looks as though it's bursting from the mountainside. Guests love the traditional ski chalet feel here, from the exposed wood beams and stone walls of the lobby to the cozy fireplaces found in many of the guest rooms. For skiers, The Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch features an in-house ski and snowboard outfitter and a ski concierge, and the $55 winter resort fee ($30 in the summer) covers high-speed Internet access, shuttle transportation to Beaver Creek Village and access to the resort's fitness classes and sauna, among other services. If the slopes aren't calling your name, spend a day rejuvenating at the 21,000-square-foot Bachelor Gulch Spa while your children participate in one of the resort's kids programs. Then, regroup for dinner; there are three dining options to choose from. The one downside, according to recent visitors, is that things here can get very pricey very quickly. Sitting at the heart of the upscale Cherry Creek neighborhood just southeast of downtown Denver, the JW Marriott is an ideal home base for sightseers. Within a few miles of the hotel are several popular sites like the Denver Botanic Gardens, the Molly Brown House Museum and the Denver Art Museum. Recent guests praise this hotel for its style; guest rooms feature bright colors, bold patterns and sleek furnishings as well as marble baths and flat-screen TVs. Meanwhile, common areas exude a welcoming atmosphere from its hardwood floors and big, comfy furniture. Although they praise the JW Marriott's on-site facilities, which include a fitness center and the savory Social Fare, previous visitors say that it was the hotel staff that made them want to return to this property. Lodging here doesn't come cheap, but members of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program can offset the cost of their stay by trading in points for perks.

When it comes to glitz and glamour, you can't go wrong with the Hotel Monaco. This funky hotel lives up to the Monaco's reputation, catering to the trendy set with its brightly colored furniture and chic artistic flair. The hotel lobby's fun decor makes it an excellent spot for an evening drink; like all Kimpton brand properties, the Hotel Monaco Denver offers its guests complimentary wine and coffee every day. Meanwhile, the guest rooms are just as stylish as the common areas, with patterned drapes and matching throw pillows evoking a Victorian-era mansion, while animal print blankets and clashing hues almost overwhelm the senses – but not quite. Previous guests are also fond of the in-house VEDA Salon & Spa and the northern Italian dishes served at Panzano Restaurant. Recent visitors also had high praise for the friendly staff and nightly wine hour, but what guests love most about the Hotel Monaco is its location in the heart of downtown Denver, just a few blocks from Larimer Square. Keep in mind that an ideal location means expensive parking rates though.
