    Princeville Resort
    Princeville, HI
    5-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3199 reviewsTripAdvisor (3199)
    Free WiFi

Walking into the lobby of the Princeville Resort, you know immediately that you are at the top – the top of the hotel that is. That's where you'll find the lobby, affording jaw-dropping views of the ocean and Kauai's lush coast. Between Hanalei Bay and Kauai's rugged mountains, the resort's stunning location sets this property apart from the competition. According to previous visitors, the guest rooms are just as impressive: Princeville Resort forgoes the kitschy tropical decor in favor of decorative accents that touch upon the resort's natural surroundings with rich, earth tone color palettes. Rooms also come with home theater systems, 300-thread-count linens and, in some cases, balconies. The Princeville Resort also houses multiple distinct restaurants, all of which use ingredients that have been grown or produced on the island. And it's home to an incredible infinity pool – dubbed one of the world's most beautiful. Despite the properties world-class amenities, some past guests feel the Princeville Resort is in need of a refresh.

Some say the Grand Hyatt's exceptional staff will make you feel right at home. However, your home probably doesn't have immaculately kept tropical grounds, a sand-bottomed lagoon pool or a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. This resort treats Kauai travelers to a relaxed getaway, with guest rooms outfitted with flat-screen TVs, complimentary refillable water bottles and private lanais (balconies). But you'll likely not be spending much time indoors, as the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort offers plenty in the way of island activities. On the property, you'll find several pools and lagoons worth laying by, as well as a variety of cultural performances taking place on any given day. Visitors enjoy indulging at the Anara Spa and teeing off on the gorgeous Po'ipu Bay Golf Course. And when it comes to dining, travelers say you really can't go wrong with the Grand Hyatt's restaurants, which serve up a variety of cuisines ranging from Hawaiian to Asian to Italian. The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa is along the south coast of Kauai, east of Po'ipu Beach. Members of the Hyatt Rewards rewards program can earn and redeem points here, which helps offset the pricey hotel's nightly room rates.

Sitting pretty on Kauai's southeastern coast near the popular Po'ipu Beach, this resort earns rave reviews from recent guests for its spacious studios and villas (studios start at 475 square feet). Rooms feature up to four bedrooms and include full kitchens or kitchenettes, flat-screen TVs and oversized balconies. Though lodgers praise the roomy accommodations, recent guests had some complaints when it came to housekeeping services. When you're not lounging in your digs, you'll find plenty of resort activities to keep you occupied, including volleyball, soccer and snorkeling. If you've got kids in tow, take your brood to the new 350,000-gallon Signature Lagoon Pool, which recently opened in the spring of 2017. For a more peaceful dip, head to the adults-only Tranquility Waterfall Pool. For more pampering, book an appointment at the spa or join in on complimentary yoga. And now that this sprawling resort is a member of the Marriott family, Marriot Bonvoy members can earn or redeem points by choosing to stay here.

    Kaua'i Marriott Resort
    Lihue, HI
    4-star HOTEL CLASS

Boasting the largest single-level outdoor pool in Hawaii, along with flowing fountains, lagoons and a prime stretch of beach, the Kaua'i Marriott Resort surrounds its visitors with plenty of water. Travelers say that the resort's grounds are impressive, and many describe the guest rooms here as comfortable. Accommodations at this Marriott property feature red- and orange-hued decor and amenities like flat-screen TVs and high-speed internet access (for a fee). Travelers highly recommend requesting a room with a balcony so that you can enjoy the resort's pleasant surroundings and excellent views. However, the Lihue Airport is only 2 miles north, meaning that the isolated resort tranquility can get quashed by the sound of a passing plane. So it's not the best place for a quiet, romantic vacation. Still, a stay here will grant you easy access Kalapaki Beach, not to mention the soothing Alexander Spa and Salon, 18 holes of championship golf and several restaurants. Members of the Marriott Bonvoy program can earn and use points here.

For peace and quiet, it's hard to beat the Koa Kea Hotel & Resort. The property hosts 121 rooms on a spectacular portion of Po'ipu Beach amidst fierce competition from larger brand-name resorts nearby. The Koa Kea's design is more urban-chic than easygoing tropical, with guest rooms sporting contemporary furnishings and amenities like flat-screen TVs, high-speed internet access, espresso machines and iPod docking stations. But visitors find plenty of relaxing solitude here: Not only do accommodations boast private lanais (balconies), but the Koa Kea Hotel also houses an intimate spa (with only five treatment rooms), a lagoon-style, lava-inspired swimming pool, an oceanfront lawn with firepits and direct access to the beach. As for dining, there is the Red Salt, which showcases Hawaiian cuisine in an intimate setting. And according to recent guests, the staff is accommodating and personable; so don't hesitate to ask for anything from more linens to directions to the closest hiking trail.

The spacious Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort is one of Kauai's best options for families. The resort hosts spacious suites that include one- or two-bedrooms, ample living space and full kitchens. According to many recent guests, the Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort has all the comforts of home — with a few extras thrown in. Although you can certainly do your own cooking, you can also forgo dish duty in favor of a fresh seafood meal at the Oasis on the Beach restaurant. Meanwhile, the waterslides, lazy river and man-made beach are fun enough to draw you and your kids away from the beach. And the in-house Spa by the Sea offers a wide range of Hawaiian-inspired massages and body treatments. You should also note that the Outrigger's isolated location in Kapaa can be either refreshing or frustrating.

Visitors enjoy the Sheraton Kauai Resort's friendly personality, which is propagated by welcoming staff members, as well as family-friendly activities like ukulele lessons and lei making. Guest rooms here feature wood furnishings, flat-screen TVs, Internet access and private lanais (balconies).
