    Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek
    Dallas, TX
    5-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 833 reviewsTripAdvisor (833)
    Free WiFi

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts' flagship property sits north of the vibrant Dallas Arts District, providing the tranquility needed for a good night's sleep alongside the convenience of a relatively central location. Oil heiress Caroline Rose Hunt turned this mansion of a former cotton mogul into a hotel in 1981. Now, the property envelopes guests in elegant decor, with guest rooms sporting French doors opening up onto private balconies. (Meanwhile, the RoseBuds for Children program will ensure that your little one has everything he or she needs for a peaceful night, including kid-friendly bath products and a crib, if necessary.) When you're not admiring your digs, take advantage of the hotel's temperature-controlled outdoor pool and deck or head to one of the nearby parks for a little fresh air. And to satisfy your taste buds, executive chef Sebastien Archambault cooks up new American cuisine with French influences at The Mansion Restaurant. This five-star hotel gets rave reviews, with many recent guests saying the staff go above and beyond to anticipate guests needs. However, there are still some naysayers who – despite the hotel's recent renovations – claim there's room for design improvements.

Located 13 miles northwest of Dallas, the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas is quite a mouthful. But it's also quite a hotel. Surrounded by 400 acres of rolling Texas hills, this expansive Four Seasons property is home to a spa, an 18-hole golf course and several restaurants and lounges. And that's on top of the 431 guest rooms, which visitors describe as spacious and comfortable with plush bedding and marble bathrooms that include soaking tubs. Travelers also say that there's no shortage of things to do at this resort, from practicing your tennis swing to lounging by one of the four pools. However, if you plan on doing any sightseeing in Dallas or Fort Worth, you might want to pick a hotel closer in – it can take quite a bit of time in heavy traffic to travel between Irving and Dallas.

Some hotels aim for historical luxury, while others lean more toward contemporary-chic. The Joule does both, combining antique accents (check out the massive mechanical wheel in the lobby) with multicolored lighting and modern art. Recent guests say they were beyond impressed with the decor, as well as the numerous amenities, including a library and several shops. The Joule's stunning infinity pool is also worth a look: Its daring rooftop design earned it a spot on our list of the Prettiest Hotel Pools. And when dinnertime rolls around, grab some contemporary Texas fare at CBD Provisions. The hotel's location isn't bad, either; rooms look out over Main Street in the heart of Dallas' historic district.

    Omni Fort Worth Hotel
    Fort Worth, TX
    4.5-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 4373 reviewsTripAdvisor (4373)

Though it may not look like it from the outside, the Omni Fort Worth Hotel embraces its cowtown setting: Guest rooms are decked out in brown and red hues and sport decorative "saddle-style" blankets and colorful photos of the state's beloved longhorns. (However, some recent guests complain that the rooms were too small for the fairly high price.) Common areas, like Bob's Steak & Chop House, the Cast Iron Restaurant and the Whiskey & Rye bar feature sultry leather and wood furnishings. Previous visitors rave about the food served here, praising Cast Iron's breakfast buffet for its variety and Whiskey & Rye for its wide selection of drinks. This member of the Omni hotel family is within a couple of miles of some of Fort Worth's most popular attractions, but should you prefer to stick around the property, you'll find a heated outdoor pool and a full-service spa. What's more, members of the Omni Select Guest loyalty program can easily use their points for perks.

New to the Hilton brand, The Highland Dallas is the first hotel in Hilton's boutique Curio Collection and aims at adding sleek personality to the hotel. So far, recent guests haven't been disappointed with the swanky digs or the customer service, saying staff goes out of their way to meet their needs (including those of your four-legged friends). Pooches aren't the only ones pampered at this property, however: Treat yourself to a massage or yoga class at the Exhale Spa before spending a lazy afternoon by the infinity pool and an evening at the popular Knife restaurant. When it's time to sleep, you'll find Italian Frette linens and 32-inch flat-screen TVs in your room. And while these features – combined with a great seat near the southeast corner of Southern Methodist University's campus – surely capture guests' attention, most visitors say that it's the warm, welcoming staff that make their stays memorable. Located off of North Stemmons Freeway several miles northwest of downtown Dallas, the Hilton Anatole is far enough from the city to be a peaceful retreat, yet close enough to be convienent for sightseeing. Boasting fantastic skyline views, guest rooms at this Hyatt hotel earn positive reviews from recent visitors, who appreciate the spacious layout and trendy decor. Visitors also say they were pleasantly surprised by the amount of effort put in by hotel staff to ensure a pleasant stay. And though this may not be the prettiest part of downtown Dallas, travelers who choose the Hyatt Regency Dallas will find themselves just a short walk from the Sixth Floor Museum and the Dallas World Aquarium. Stay on the property to take a swim in the third-floor pool or relax on the sundeck. When you prefer to retreat to your room, you'll find flat-screen TVs and iPod docking stations, but guests with the city view rooms do warn about late-night noise from the nearby train station. Alongside Lake Carolyn in Irving, Texas – about 30 miles from Fort Worth and nearly 12 miles from Dallas – the Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas is probably not the best home base for sightseers. But according to recent guests, staying at this member of the Omni hotel clan is more of an escape than just a place to hang your hat. If your goal is to get away from it all, you'll find just about everything you need here. For starters, the Mokara Salon & Spa offers a long list of massages and skin treatments to ensure that you're relaxed and looking your best, and previous visitors say that the heated lakeside pool is the perfect place to catch some rays. And the on-site playground will keep younger travelers occupied. Though they say that the decor could use a facelift (describing it as dark and dated), visitors appreciate the large size of the guest rooms and the excellent views provided by the massive windows. And when you're feeling peckish, make a dinner date and enjoy a variety of flavors at Trevi's Restaurant. Warwick Melrose Hotel, Dallas
    Dallas, TX
    4-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1215 reviewsTripAdvisor (1215)

If you're looking to sample traditional Texan luxury, consider a night or two at the Warwick Melrose Hotel. Sitting about 2 miles north of the Dallas Arts District, this stunning property was constructed in 1924 and has since catered to such notables as Elizabeth Taylor, Luciano Pavarotti and Arthur Miller. It's easy to see why the rich and famous choose to stay here: Though it lacks a pool (a sore point for some guests), the hotel is decked out in Old World decor, and the Landmark Restaurant is a favorite among guests and critics alike. While some recent travelers observed a need for an update in the decor, the traditional king rooms are still fitted with amenities like plush bathrobes and 37-inch TVs. The presidential suite covers 1,500 square feet and boasts a crystal chandelier and a garden tub. Recent visitors also warn about the street noise at night – for a more peaceful slumber, make sure to reserve a room facing away from Oak Lawn Avenue.

    The Westin Dallas Park Central
    Dallas, TX
    4-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 368 reviewsTripAdvisor (368)

Like most Westins, this Park Central hotel is comfortable and spacious, with guest rooms boasting cozy Heavenly Beds and spa-worthy bath amenities. However, if you're in town on vacation, recent guests recommend that you book elsewhere. The Westin Dallas Park Central's location in North Dallas (about 11 miles from downtown) is not the most convenient for tourists. Business travelers, on the other hand, should take a closer look at this property; the business center makes working on the road less of a hassle, while the Westin Dallas Park Central's 30 meeting rooms and its proximity to several industry headquarters make it an ideal convention location. If you're in town to do some spending, consider this Westin property for its proximity to both the NorthPark and The Galleria shopping centers. Although many visitors say that the guest rooms are outdated and in need of a deep cleaning, most note that the customer service here is top-notch. Plus, Marriott Bonvoy members can use points to cover the room rate.

(But keep in mind that if you hit traffic, you're looking at an hourlong commute into Dallas.) To ensure that you make it to the gate on time, the Hyatt Regency DFW International Airport provides complimentary shuttle service to all of the airport's terminals, and Jett's Coffee Bar (open 24 hours a day) can provide the caffeine kick you need to get going. Overlooking Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth, The Worthington Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel is a well-suited location for leisure travelers; it is close to downtown's restaurants and shops, while top sites like the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame are just a short drive away. However, recent guests warn that this convenience will cost you: Many guests complain of expensive parking fees and internet charges. But for some, the hotel's indoor pool, whirlpool and in-house eateries are worth the extra cost. Some guests complain that rooms are a little small for a hotel of this caliber, but the plush furniture and floral accents made up for it. Guests also suggest reserving a room with a private balcony overlooking main street if you can. Don't feel like paying extra for views? Hotel staff can also help you set up a tee time at the Tenison Highlands Golf Course, located roughly 8 miles away. Or, if you've got kids in tow, the Dallas World Aquarium and the Dallas Zoo are both within easy reach. Located near the Museum of Art, the Dallas edition of the luxurious Ritz-Carlton brand goes beyond just offering many of the amenities you'd expect from a five-star hotel. For instance, this hotel boasts not just a pool, but a saline-treated rooftop pool; and not just facials and massages, but a 12,000-square-foot spa. But guests say that the rooms alone are worth The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas' high price tag. Spacious and elegant, these high-end digs come equipped with 400-thread-count linens and iPod docking stations, not to mention HD televisions and fully stocked minibars. If peanuts and cookies won't tide you over, make reservations at Fearing's Restaurant; previous visitors said that the eatery deserves its numerous accolades thanks to its gourmet American cuisine. However, the hotel's old-fashioned style doesn't sit well with every traveler: Some guests say The Adolphus feels a little shabby (and not in a chic way). But most visitors agree that the food served at The French Room restaurant is worth the rather high price tag, with some diners even saying that it's some of the best cuisine in the city.
