    Windsor Court Hotel
    New Orleans, LA
    5-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 1889 reviewsTripAdvisor (1889)
    Free WiFi

The Windsor Court Hotel, which recently underwent a $15 million renovation, is beloved by New Orleans travelers for a variety of reasons. There's the view of the Mississippi River as seen from the higher-up balconies or bay windows, and the kind and courteous staff members that go above and beyond in customer service, according to visitors. That's not to mention the delicious and refined Southern eats served in The Grill Room. Other nice features include Polo Club Lounge's live contemporary jazz performances five nights a week, or the housekeeping staff's twice-daily room cleaning. Rooms come equipped with a blend of English and French decor, Italian marble baths, minibars and complimentary Wi-Fi access. You'll also find a full-service spa, fitness center and rooftop pool at this NOLA favorite. Windsor Court is located on Gravier Street, within walking distance of some of the city's top sites like the National World War II Museum. What's more, members of the iPrefer rewards program can earn or use points for staying here.

    The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans
    New Orleans, LA
    4.5-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3480 reviewsTripAdvisor (3480)

Even in a city like New Orleans, where hotels wear quirky like a badge of honor, the typicalness of this Ritz branch sits well with travelers. Sitting on the edge of the French Quarter, the Ritz keeps things distinctly local with decor that's reflective of the Garden District's antebellum mansions. Guests report that the rooms are pristine, boasting neoclassical furnishings, Italian marble baths, flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations and floor-to-ceiling windows. Recent lodgers recommend booking a room in the front of the hotel if you want to avoid the Canal Street din. Staying true to its roots, the Ritz also offers two eateries with distinct NOLA flavors. And if you need a break from The Big Easy's rowdy atmosphere, unwind at the hotel's day spa. Yes, this Canal Street hotel is expensive, but many say it's more than worth shelling out the cash. And if you're a Marriott Bonvoy member, you can earn or score complimentary extras by choosing to stay here. Still, some recent guests note that this hotel doesn't live up to the Ritz-Carlton standards they are used to in terms of service.

The Royal Sonesta New Orleans recently underwent an extensive renovation, revealing 483 newly updated guest rooms. What's more, the property owns more than 7,000 contemporary works of art, many of which can be found on display throughout the hotel. Travelers praise the tip-top, Euro-tinged decor and the clean rooms, which are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, minifridges, Keurig coffee makers, robes and beds with pillow-top mattresses. Recent guests also recommend upgrading from a regular room to one of the R Club Concierge Level accommodations, if it fits into your budget. You'll receive access to a lounge with 24-hour concierge service, free breakfast, tea and cocktails, plus complimentary use of a computer. Recent guests who booked one of the interior R Club rooms report hearing little to no noise from busy Bourbon Street. However, that is not the case for all other rooms on the property, which can let in a fair amount of street noise.

    Hotel Monteleone
    New Orleans, LA
    4-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 8881 reviewsTripAdvisor (8881)
    Free WiFi

The Hotel Monteleone has boarded the who's who of American literati, including Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams and William Faulkner, to name a few. Even some of the new class (like Anne Rice, Winston Groom and John Grisham) have stayed here for a night or two. The hotel's revolving Carousel Bar & Lounge has become an icon that features prominently in books and movies about the city of New Orleans. In other words, the Hotel Monteleone is an institution. As such, it's hard to determine whether previous guests' opinions of their stay are based on quality or legacy. Some patrons gush over the hotel's charm, while others complain of cramped rooms and a dated look and feel. Rooms include Keurig coffee makers, HDTVs and iHome radios. Most everyone agrees, though, that the staff here is very personable and the location is superb. The Hotel Monteleone sits on Royal Street in the French Quarter.

The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel
    New Orleans, LA
    4.5-star HOTEL CLASS
TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 4526 reviewsTripAdvisor (4526)

A hotel can be old, but it certainly shouldn't look old. Case in point: The historic Roosevelt, a classic among the lodging offerings of New Orleans, had begun to show a little wear before Hurricane Katrina. After that setback, the owners used it as an opportunity to close, renovate and resuscitate their fledgling stamp on luxury. Part of Waldorf Astoria's esteemed collection, The Roosevelt New Orleans has been able to preserve its legendary status while keeping up with the evolving standard of luxury. Recent lodgers gush over the comfortable rooms and their high-quality furniture (leather chairs and couches, in some cases), and appreciate modern features like the high-speed internet access (for a fee) and two flat-screen TVs. The staff members also win over recent patrons for being exceptionally accommodating. What's more, the legendary Sazerac Bar is reminiscent of the happening spot it was in the days of Louis Armstrong and Huey P. Long. You can find The Roosevelt New Orleans right off Canal Street, on Roosevelt Way. And if you're a Hilton Honors member, you can earn or redeem reward points here for perks.

Harrah's real bread and butter is the casino floor, not the hotel rooms. Still, travelers find that this Mississippi Riverfront hotel does an excellent job of making you feel at home while you take your chances at the slots and tables. The rooms are large, the staff is quick to respond to the needs of guests, and because you're in such a prime spot, you can easily walk to the French Quarter's best-loved sites or to the Central Business District. This hotel can be bustling, so you might want to stay someplace else if you value your sleep.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 3108 reviewsTripAdvisor (3108)

Bigger sometimes is better, according to recent guests of the Loews New Orleans Hotel. The recently renovated hotel rooms are large and offer modern decor and spacious showers. All accommodations come with free Wi-Fi access, 24-hour room service and Egyptian cotton linens. And the hotel itself is pretty tall, considering it doesn't start until the 11th floor of a skyscraper in the Central Business District. Additional on-site amenities at this property include the new Poydras & Peters Brasserie and Market, a fitness center and an indoor saltwater pool. As far as service is concerned, recent visitors have mixed reviews. Some said it's a little lacking, noting disorganized front desk staff and inattentive restaurant servers, while others encountered friendly and helpful hotel employees. Recent guests called the Nottoway Plantation & Resort an ideal setting for a romantic getaway or an anniversary trip thanks to its historic charm and beautiful grounds. Situated around 80 miles northwest of New Orleans and about 25 miles south of Baton Rouge, the resort sits in White Castle, Louisiana. Despite its somewhat isolated location, the resort offers plenty of diversions and a peaceful atmosphere, according to recent visitors. Originally constructed in 1859, the antebellum plantation has expanded to include nine Acadian-style cottages, an on-site salon, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, and tennis courts. But the real star of the Nottoway Plantation isn't its updated amenities, it's the house itself. You can take a guided tour of the lavish property and on-site museum (highly recommended by recent visitors), or, to really experience what life was like for the original homeowners, opt to bed down in one of the mansion's original rooms, which feature antique beds and authentic furnishings. Whether you stay in the mansion or in one of the property's cottages, you'll find these amenities in every room: wireless internet access, a flat-screen TV and a coffee maker. Another highlight for recent lodgers: The Mansion Restaurant. Reviewers gush about the Creole-inspired cuisine and excellent service, as well as the sweeping views of the Nottoway grounds.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4.5 based on 5490 reviewsTripAdvisor (5490)

The Omni Royal Orleans benefits from its address on St. Louis Street – between Royal and Chartres streets – in the French Quarter. In 2013, the property underwent a renovation of its public areas and guest rooms, many of which now boast wrought iron balconies. When you're not relaxing in the comfort rooms, visit the popular in-house restaurant, the Rib Room. Recent lodgers report that though rooms are somewhat small, they feature French and Creole design accents, marble bathrooms (which guests say offer great water pressure) and courtyard or French Quarter views. If you don't score a room with French Quarter views, head to the highly praised rooftop observation deck which features a heated outdoor pool. Travelers also recommend joining the Omni Select Guest program to enjoy complimentary perks, like free in-room Wi-Fi and a free libation at the bar.

TripAdvisor Traveler Rating 4 based on 1250 reviewsTripAdvisor (1250)

Fairly soon after you enter this Renaissance, it should become clear why it has been given the name "Arts Hotel." The Marriott-backed property is filled with modern works, many of which are inside the satellite branch of the Arthur Rogers Gallery that you'll find in the lobby. Guests say that rooms more or less fit into this brand's usual standard of luxury, so you'll find sparse – but high quality –furnishings and comfortable beds, plus amenities like Aveda bath products, minifridges, Wi-Fi access (for a fee) and LCD TVs. The Renaissance New Orleans Arts Warehouse District Hotel also has a heated rooftop pool, something that you won't find at too many luxury hotels in New Orleans. This Hyatt Centric hotel (the newest boutique brand from Hyatt geared towards millienials) in the French Quarter lures travelers who are seeking a convenient home base near New Orleans' top attractions. Once you've settled into your room – outfitted with a flat-screen TV and an iPod docking station – you can unwind with a dip in the outdoor pool or savor a cocktail at the poolside bar. Should you crave more activity, get your heart racing at the hotel's 24-hour fitness center; you can also explore nearby attractions, like Bourbon Street and the French Market. If perusing the local stands makes your stomach rumble, head back to the hotel's Red Fish Grill for some Creole favorites like pecan-crusted catfish and jambalaya. For lighter fare, stop by the Hyatt's Powdered Sugar market in the lobby or the adjacent Hard Rock Café (which is connected to the hotel). When nighttime rolls around, savor a cocktail at Batch Bar or join in the Bourbon Street revelry. Soniat House is an idyllic choice for couples — the decor practically screams "rendezvous," with its four-poster beds (only available in some rooms), its French and Italian antique furniture and its candlelit courtyards. Each of the 31 rooms and suites have Frette linens and Molton Brown toiletries; the free afternoon cocktails are pure class, and the breakfast served each morning (not free) is tasty. Plus, this hotel on Chartres Street is somewhat removed from the Big Easy hoopla. Travelers give kudos to the warm staff, but they also warn that if you're expecting convenient luxury, this may not be the NOLA home base for you. Recent guests say they flocked to the Soniat House knowing it would be more like an escape into the city's bygone era and therefore tolerated some of its flaws (no in-room coffee makers and a small, slow elevator) for the charming experience.

Conveniently located within walking distance of the French Quarter and next to the Superdome, the Hyatt Regency New Orleans puts guests in the heart of the action. The Bywater Pool Deck & Bar, with its private cabanas, ample lounge chairs and expansive city views is the perfect place to unwind before painting the town. As for accommodations, rooms are contemporary with amenities such as 42-inch flat-screen TV, coffee makers and iHome stereo systems. While some past guests caution that the nightly rate is a bit steep compared to competitors, they say the clean, comfortable rooms and convenient address are well worth the price tag. Plus, if you participate in the Hyatt Gold Passport rewards program, you can use points to offset the price of your stay here. And though past guests note there are some excellent restaurants on-site, including 8 Block Kitchen & Bar, which specializes in traditional Southern fare, many suggest trying the fine dining establishments nearby before returning to the Hyatt for free live jazz shows on Friday and Saturday nights. Should you have any lingering energy, venture to the hotel's 32nd-floor fitness center; or if it's extra relaxation you seek, book an in-room massage treatment.

Consider this hotel if you're looking to be in the thick of things, especially during Mardi Gras, when the JW Marriott has a great vantage point of the parades. Others have used this hotel as their home base for business travel and for the springtime New Orleans Jazz Fest. But if you want a hotel loaded with special perks and overwhelming comfort, recent guests do note that this property doesn't offer much more than the basics. Guest rooms are a decent size with plush duvets, marble bathrooms and bathrobes, desks and flat-screen TVs. What's more, the hotel is home to a fitness center and an outdoor saltwater pool. Lodgers report that the on-site Fogo De Chao, a Brazilian steakhouse, is pretty tasty. If you'd rather branch out beyond your digs, the hotel's ideal location means there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. If you're a Marriott Bonvoy member you can earn or cash in points here.
