Best Times to Visit Jerusalem

The best times to visit Jerusalem are April through May and October through November, when the weather is mild and the crowds are thin. However, make sure to cross-check your travel dates with major Jewish celebrations such as the High Holy Days, Sukkot, and Passover. A strong surge of visitor traffic drives hotel prices up during these holidays. Summer is Jerusalem's peak tourism season, despite sweltering daytime temps. Winters boast good deals on hotels, but the weather remains fickle: One day can be sunny and fairly warm, while the next can be rainy and chilly.

December-March

Jerusalem sees much cooler wintertime temperatures than its neighbor, Tel Aviv. Daytime highs hover in the 50s, and heavy rainfall is common. You’ll want to bring some warm layers. Hotel prices are low, so this is prime travel time for the budget-minded.

Key Events:

April-May

Springtime in Jerusalem means plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures (highs in the 70s). You'll likely score some great hotel deals. But you should plan your visit around major holidays, such as Passover and Easter, when large groups of religious visitors travel from all around the world to celebrate in the Holy Land.

Key Events:

  • Passover (March-April; varies by year)
  • Easter and Holy Week (April)
  • Jerusalem Day (May)
  • Israel Festival (May-June)
June-September

Summer is the most popular time to visit Jerusalem, despite temperatures that stretch from the mid-80s into the triple digits. If you can stand the heat, you'll find the Holy City drenched with sunlight almost every day. Temperatures aren't the only thing that's high at this time of year: Hotel rates are at their peak.

Key Events:

October-November

Walking around Jerusalem in the fall is much more enjoyable than in the summer. Temperatures hover between the mid-60s and the mid-70s, making ideal exploring conditions. Like in the spring, hotel rates are generally low during this time of year, but prices tend to spike during annual holidays.

Key Events:

  • High Holy Days (September-October; varies by year)
  • Sukkot/Feast of Tabernacles (September-October; varies by year)
