This little working fishing village, considered part of Kennebunkport, is a few miles from Dock Square and offers a scenic outing. Visitors can watch fishermen hauling in traps and coming in and out of the harbor in their boats at the Cape Porpoise Pier, just as they have done for years. Other activities include shopping in the quaint general store called Bradbury Bros. Market and browsing through the handful of shops and galleries. Goat Island Light, one of Maine oldest lighthouses, is also located in Cape Porpoise.
Recent visitors said the village is quite picturesque but warn if you want photos of the lighthouse, you'll need a camera with a zoom lens. Travelers also said the village is home to several seafood shacks, where the food is as fresh as it gets. Favorites include Musette, Pier 77 and Cape Pier Chowder House.
Cape Porpoise sits about 2 miles east of Dock Square and makes for a pleasant bike ride.

#2 Beaches
This string of beaches, located along Beach Avenue, is packed on sunny summer days. It's not hard to understand why Gooch's Beach (often called "Kennebunk Beach") is one of Kennebunkport's most popular (read: crowded) stretches of sand. Not only does it boast scenic vistas, it's also the closest beach to the downtown area. Travelers say Gooch's is a great beach to bring your family and your four-legged friend as dogs are allowed here. Recent visitors loved the fact that the beach is not overdeveloped, but warn that it can be difficult to find parking at times.
Middle Beach may be rocky, but is still a gorgeous spot to sunbathe and enjoy the views. Meanwhile, Mother's Beach also has a large playground and, like Gooch's Beach, offers lifeguards and portable toilets July through Labor Day. You'll want to bring a cooler with food and drinks as there are limited facilities at the beaches.
