Best Times to Visit Key Largo

The best time to visit Key Largo is between December and March. During this time, you will find dry weather and temperatures that aren't too hot, but are still warm enough for the beach and other outdoor activities. During the holiday season, Key Largo hosts fun celebrations like an annual cook-off and a holiday boat parade, while January welcomes two popular food festivals. Temperatures in April and May remain comfortable in the 70s and 80s, and it is a fairly quiet time to visit. June through November brings hot summer temperatures reaching the 90s and hurricane season, but also fewer crowds and lower hotel rates.

December-March

From December through March, visitors will enjoy pleasant temperatures in the mid-70s and little rain, as well as plenty of fun events like the area's food and wine and stone crab and seafood festivals. Lobster season is also in full swing during this time, which promises endless mouthwatering meals. Just keep in mind that you will have to contend with crowds, as travelers from across the country venture down south to the Florida Keys during the colder months. As such, hotel prices may be at their highest, and you should book your stay in advance to secure a spot.

Key Events:

April-May

April and May are fairly quiet months in Key Largo, as the winter and spring break crowds have dispersed and summer visitors have not yet arrived. Travelers who book their vacations during this time will enjoy pleasant temperatures in the 70s and 80s. If you're interested in getting out on the town in between your naps on the beach, consider traveling in May to attend the Key Largo Original Music Festival.

Key Events:

June-November

The Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June 1 to Nov. 30. Historically, September is the most active month for the formation of storms, and the Florida Keys are sometimes vulnerable to their impact. Aside from hurricanes, the summer months also bring some of Key Largo's hottest temperatures, with highs in July and August reaching the 90s. The bright side to all this is that you will not have to battle the crowds of the busy season, and you may be able to score some lodging discounts. July and August are also the start of the Keys' prime lobster season, so you're destined to enjoy some top-notch seafood (and maybe even have the chance to catch it yourself). Other events include the Lionfish Derby & Festival, a day when teams and participants compete to catch as many lionfish as possible and the public is invited to sample and learn more about the invasive species. Still, travelers looking for a more traditional dining experience may prefer the annual Key Largo Cook-Off in November.
