Best Times to Visit Naples, Italy

The best time to visit Naples is between March and April when the weather is mild and the tourist crowds aren't quite so thick. Summertime is characterized by hot and humid weather and makes touring everything but the beach sticky and sweaty. In the fall, you'll experience a drop in temperatures, but this is accompanied by ample rain showers. Between December and February, you'll find mild winters (highs hover in the mid-50s) with sunny days alternating with gray, gloomy ones – but the lineup of Christmas-related events and low season lodging rates may be worth the relatively chilly temps.

September-November

In September and October, high average temperatures drop into the 70s (by November, they're in the 60s). However, these mild days coincide with the city's highest annual precipitation rates, which could put a damper on your outdoor explorations. Hotel prices might experience a slight rise this time of year as compared to their summertime and wintertime lows.

Key Events:

December-February

Average temperatures this time of year range between the upper 30s and mid-50s, making warm layers a necessity and the beach out of the question. Although the sun does make an appearance during this season, a Naples winter still contains its share of dreary days. Still, a host of Christmas-related events brings color to the city. Hotel rates are pretty low this time of year, too, which leaves more euros in your pocket for trinkets found at Christmas Alley.

Key Events:

March-May

This short period is the best time to visit Naples because average highs range from the 60s to the 70s, making the weather just about perfect for leisurely touring the city or taking a trip to the Amalfi Coast. However, hotel prices tend to inflate this time of year, and rain may be in the forecast from time to time, so remember to pack an umbrella.

Key Events:

  • Festa della Liberazione (April)
  • Festa di San Gennaro (May)

June-August

Summertime is characterized by high levels of humidity and high average temperatures in the mid-80s. The city sees its fair share of travelers this time of year, but the majority spend most of their time catching the ocean breezes 40-some miles away on the Amalfi Coast. Hotel rates in the city aren't bad this time of year, possibly because hoteliers want to entice travelers from the spate of properties that line the coast.
