Best Times to Visit Ocean City, MD

The best time to visit Ocean City is from late May to early September, just be prepared for average highs in the mid-80s and a little humidity. There will also be a lot of crowds, and hotel rates that are double the cost of visiting in spring, so consider booking several months in advance. Budget travelers might want to consider the winters: Average low temperatures are in the lower 30s, keeping room rates low. But forewarning, many local hotels and inns close down for the offseason.

April-Late May

The top attractions are still limited to offseason hours from the winter, but a spring visit can still be worth it. Prices are low – around $70 a night for a midrange hotel – and temperatures rise to the low 70s, just warm enough to lay out on a sunny day.

Key Events:

Late May-Early September

The summer season – officially from Memorial Day to Labor Day – is no doubt the busiest time in Ocean City, but it's also the best: The warm sun is prime for beach time, and businesses set up shop for an influx of families. Unfortunately, this is also the most expensive season, and you should make your hotel reservations at least three to four months in advance.

Key Events:

Mid September-October

The temperatures don't dip too drastically – averages highs hover in the 60s and 70s – and even though beach-centered shops are closed, the fall festivals are worth the visit.

Key Events:

November-March

Although the prices are great in the winter, many businesses shut their doors during this slow season and there can be little to do. Plus, some of the city's transportation services, including the Boardwalk Tram, are unavailable. We recommend a holiday visit when the event schedule picks up.
