Best Times to Visit Ocean City, NJ

The best time to visit Ocean City, New Jersey, is from May to September. Average high temperatures range from 67 to 81 degrees during the peak tourist season, providing the perfect environment for soaking up the sun and strolling on the boardwalk. The dates that bookend Ocean City's tourism season are May 15 and Labor Day, the first Monday in September. During the offseason, when average highs range from 42 to 65 degrees, many of the boardwalk and beach and boardwalk rules become less stringent. For example, dogs are allowed on the beach from October through April 30 (but never the boardwalk) and boardwalk bike hours are expanded during the offseason.

October-April

Ocean City still holds events and welcomes numerous tourists until its Fall Block Party, a collection of food, craft vendors and music, which typically occurs in early October. Travelers might still be able to sneak in a warm weekend during October or April, when highs average around 60 degrees, but the utility of Ocean City as a boardwalk city drastically diminishes as the weather drops. January and February see the coldest temperatures, when highs fall to the low 40s. Still, cheaper accommodations and smaller crowds win over autumn and spring travelers who don't mind donning a sweater or light jacket to stay warm.

Key Events:

May-September

May-September (Best)

Highs in May average in the upper 60s, while July and August welcome the warmest weather in Ocean City with average daytime temperatures around 80 degrees. Low temperatures average about 10 degrees cooler than the high, so consider packing a long-sleeved T-shirt or sweater if the weather looks dicey.
