Best Times to Visit Orlando-Walt Disney World

The best time to visit Orlando is from March to May. That's the time of year you'll find the most pleasant weather (high 50s to high 80s most days) and agreeable prices on travel and lodging (excluding holiday weekends and school recesses). Likewise, September to mid-November offers comfortable temperatures and reasonable airfare and hotel rates, but autumn's months make up the most active part of Florida's hurricane season, which falls between June and November. Summertime is the worst season to plan a trip to the area – that's when the state's heat and humidity are borderline unbearable and hotels take advantage of the school break to drive up room rates. Prices are also at a premium between late November and February when families flock to the region to visit grandparents and celebrate the holidays.

December-February

Orlando's top attractions are regularly jammed with tourists in winter, but if you book flights and accommodations well in advance, you'll be rewarded with sublime weather. Daytime temperatures typically fall in the low 70s, but evening lows can get down to the high 40s, so pack a light jacket. And remember to arrive early to popular theme parks (especially during the holidays), since all will stop admitting visitors once they've reached capacity, which can sometimes happen before noon.

Key Events:

March-May

Visit Orlando in the spring and you'll encounter superb weather – with average temps hovering in the high 50s to high 80s – and lower hotel and airfare rates. Plus, theme parks won't be as packed with tourists for much of the season. Though you may see prices and crowds increase during Easter and spring break recesses, consider planning ahead to stay in March, when several noteworthy events, including Universal Orlando Resort's Mardi Gras celebration and Walt Disney World Resort's Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, take place.

Key Events:

June-August

June, July and August in this central Florida city can be pricey and uncomfortable months. Families who want to vacation here often come while the kids are out of school for the summer, meaning airlines and hotels can get away with raising rates. What's more, Orlando's average summer temperatures are generally between the low 70s and low 90s but can feel 10 or more degrees warmer with high humidity levels. Hurricanes may occasionally pass through as well. If the convenience of a summer visit outweighs this season's cons, plan on beating the heat by drinking plenty of water, applying sunscreen frequently and taking breaks inside air-conditioned attractions like The Mall at Millenia.

Key Events:

September-November

Airfare and accommodation prices take a dip between summer and winter. But unlike Orlando's spring season, September, October and November are commonly plagued with hurricanes, so vacationing at this time can be risky. However, popular activities, such as the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, may justify the gamble. To safeguard your pocketbook, purchase refundable flights and hotels. Also, consider wrapping up your trip before the Thanksgiving holiday, when prices significantly increase. Expect average temperatures to sit in the high 50s to high 80s.
