Best Times to Visit Panama City Beach

The best time to visit Panama City Beach is from May through October. Though the area boasts an average of 320 days of sunshine per year, late spring, summer and early fall offer some of the warmest air and water temperatures. Plus, by avoiding a visit in March or April, you'll dodge the deluge of college students who descend on the area's ivory sands every year for spring break. You'll save on lodging prices during the area's low season (November to February), but it'll likely be too chilly to enjoy the ocean.

This is the area's low season. Though temperatures have dipped (highs hover in the mid-60s while lows reach the mid-40s), there are still plenty of holiday events filling the calendar. Plus, now that all the warm-weather crowds have emptied out, you'll enjoy more availability and lower rates at hotels and restaurants. However, because it's the offseason, some activities and attractions may not be available, including shuttle trips to Shell Island.

Key Events:

The weather during these months is balmy, with temperatures sitting comfortably in the mid- to upper 70s and water temps to match. The only problem? Beaches, hotels and restaurants are crowded with college students flocking to the area for spring break. If you're still hoping to take the kids to PCB for a spring visit, try to plan your trip for the weeks surrounding Easter. According to the visitors bureau, most college spring breakers travel to the area in March. Plan to book your accommodations several months in advance as this is a busy few months for the PCB area.

Key Events:

During these months, you'll catch a bit of summer high season traffic, but if you can stand the crowds you'll be rewarded with warm temps (mid-80s for the air and low 70s in the water) and plenty of open attractions. For more affordable rates, consider visiting in September or October when the weather is still warm (highs in the mid-80s and 70s) and there's more lodging availability. Shuttle trips to Shell Island are still offered during this time, so you won't have to sacrifice an experience to save some coin. Plus, autumn is a busy time for the PCB event calendar. The only caveat: This time period falls directly in the Atlantic hurricane season, which lasts from June through November. The heaviest rains fall in July and August, so pack an umbrella if you're planning a late summer visit.
