Best Times to Visit Pigeon Forge

The best time to visit Pigeon Forge is in the spring or fall, when the area experiences pleasant temperatures and the local attractions aren't too crowded. Some of the area's best things to do are outside, and average temperatures in the 60s and 70s and lower humidity from March to May and September to October make for an enjoyable atmosphere for all sorts of outdoor fun.

Summer sees plenty of families flocking to Pigeon Forge during the school break to take advantage of the various amusement and water parks, but accommodations are typically pricier this time of year, the temperatures can be sweltering and the humidity can be suffocating. Winter can be a good time to visit if you don't mind the cold (temperatures range from lows in the mid-20s to highs in the mid-50s) and want to participate in events like Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas or see the snow-covered mountains and holiday light displays.

March-May

March is the least crowded month of the spring, since temperatures can still be cool during this time, but in general spring as a whole is a bit less crowded than the summer and fall. Average temperatures this time of year remain in the 60s and 70s, so it's the ideal time to enjoy the outdoor attractions Pigeon Forge has to offer, including zip lining, zorbing, amusement parks and more. Plus, rather than fall foliage you'll be able to see the spring wildflowers. Lodging rates are also more affordable this time of year.

Key Events:

  • Easter Egg Hunt at Patriot Park (March or April)
  • Dollywood Barbecue and Bluegrass Festival (April to May)
June-August

Pigeon Forge seems to come to life in the summertime, thanks to an influx of visitors who come to check out all the things to do in town. You can expect average temperatures in the 70s and 80s this time of year, so you'll want to cool down at Splash Country, feel the wind whip through your hair on a rollercoaster at Dollywood and experience all the outdoor activities in and around town. It's also the busiest time of year, which means higher rates at hotels and campgrounds, and longer lines and wait times for some attractions. To avoid some of the chaos, purchase your tickets for attractions online ahead of time for a smoother experience.

Key Events:

September-October

With crisp breezes and lovely average temps in the 60s to 70s, fall is an excellent season to escape to Pigeon Forge. Visitors can take advantage of outdoor activities like camping, mini-golf and going to Dollywood without experiencing the smothering crowds of summer. In September, it may even still be warm enough to hit the waterslides at Splash Country. You should also be able to see some of the beautiful fall foliage of the surrounding mountains during the autumn.

Key Events:

November-February

While the weather in eastern Tennessee is milder than other parts of the country during the winter, snow is common in January and February. Pigeon Forge sees an average of 6 inches of snow a year. You can expect temps ranging from lows in the 20s and 30s to highs in the 50s and 60s. Winter is also a good time to visit if you want to enjoy festivals like Smoky Mountain Christmas at Dollywood or the Christmas show at the Country Tonite Theatre.

Key Events:

  • Smoky Mountain Christmas (November to January)
  • Christmas at Dolly Parton's Stampede (November to January)
  • Christmas Show at Country Tonite Theatre (November to December)
  • Christmas at The Titanic (November to December)
  • Smoky Mountain Winterfest (November to February)
