Best Times to Visit Playa del Carmen
The best time to visit Playa del Carmen is between April and May, when there are fewer people along the shore. Day temperatures hover between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, dropping slightly in the evenings. From October to March, the climate is generally dry and slightly warm. As the hurricane season ends, cruise ships flood the area. The rush of tourists boosts seaside hotel rates up. There's also a rate hike for the many visitors who like to vacation during the winter holidays; if you're looking to visit between mid-December and early January, book at least six months in advance.
Playa's crowds are nonexistent and the deals are easier to come by in this short shoulder season. But there are two busy periods to watch out for; around Easter Week and the Spring Equinox Mexico natives escape to the beach for their own getaways.
Some hotels offer hurricane specials, but room rates will stay pretty high in the offseason. And with the heat, humidity, mosquitoes, afternoon showers and even several days of intense rain, this short season is unwelcoming to most.
