Getting Around Sacramento
The best way to get around Sacramento is by car. While the downtown area has several attractions within walking distance of one another, in order to get to Midtown or any of the surrounding suburbs you'll need your own set of wheels. The city also has an extensive bus and light rail system, but some residents say it's crowded and service can be inconsistent.
|On Foot||The downtown and Midtown areas of the city are set up on a grid system with numbered streets running north to south and lettered streets running from east to west, making navigating the streets and seeing attractions in the area easy.
The most convenient way to get around Sacramento and the surrounding suburbs is by car. This city manages 15 parking lots and garages within walking distance of Capitol Park as well as an abundance of metered parking throughout the city.
The city has 37 miles of light rail lines and an expansive bus service that extends out into the suburbs about 20 miles outside the downtown area. Sacramento also provides Amtrak service, with routes to a variety of destinations including the Bay Area, southern California, Seattle and Portland, and even several points east.
