Best Times to Visit St. Martin - St. Maarten

The best time to visit St. Martin and St. Maarten is May and June or between November and mid-December. These select weeks are times when hotels advertise their best rates. The island's weather is pleasant year-round, but these are times when rain showers are less likely. Summer and early fall are not good for a vacation; many hotels close in this offseason and there's a chance of hurricanes. Also avoid visiting in winter and early spring (mid-December to April) if you can. That's when St. Martin and St. Maarten milks its wealthy vacationers.

Good luck holding on to your money in this season – this is when the island marks up airfare and room prices. To get the best deal, begin searching for lodging many, many months before your expected trip – and be ready to book at least two months beforehand. Also avoid Christmas and the long weekends over Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents Day holidays. The weather, however, is a dream: Highs are in the low 80s with very little rain.

Key Events:

If you can squeeze a vacation in these two months, you'll be treated to a 50-percent slash in prices. The weather also cooperates, with highs in the mid-80s. Remember that June is the beginning of the hurricane season, so rain showers are more common, but there's little chance of a bad storm.

Key Events:

St. Martin and St. Maarten broils with temperatures reaching the high 80s; there's also an increased chance of rain (October is particularly soggy). But the bonus to traveling at this time would be the discounts, as the few hotels that remain open during the Atlantic hurricane season advertise rates well below $200 a night.

Key Events:

  • Victor Schoelcher Grand Case Festival (St. Martin, July)

Visiting the island sometime in this six-week window could be particularly sweet. You'll experience the pleasant weather that the winter season is known for (mid-70s to low 80s on average) and if you're lucky, you'll also find a pretty good vacation package.
