Steamboat Ski Resort#5 in Best Things To Do in Steamboat Springs
Steamboat Ski Resort is primarily known as one of America's top family ski resorts. The resort features smooth, dry snow called "Champagne Powder" that's spread across 165 trails and nearly 3,000 skiable acres. Winter sports enthusiasts will also find four terrain parks, including Mavericks, the resort's largest terrain park and a popular spot for snowboarders.
During the summer season, the Steamboat Bike Park welcomes mountain bikers. Visitors can also enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding and fishing. Available kid-friendly amenities include the supervised Kids' Adventure Club, the theme park-style Coca-Cola Adventure Zone and a scenic gondola.
Many skiers who recently visited praised the well-maintained mountain and base area, noting that the trees are groomed and the ski trails suitable for all skill levels. Some longtime repeat travelers wished the new resort owners kept the shops and restaurants once found at the base of the mountain, but most regular guests praised the property's less crowded atmosphere and top-notch powder.
Steamboat Ski Resort is located less than 4 miles southeast of central Steamboat Springs. The property, which you can reach by taking the free bus to the base of the mountain, offers packages that include lodging and lift tickets. The ski season runs from November through April, while most summer facilities – like the gondola and bike park – are available from mid-July to late September. Discounts on lift tickets bought in advance are offered on the resort's booking page; reduced or waived fees are available for disabled skiers and children 12 and younger (when a five-day adult lift ticket is purchased). When buying lift tickets on-site, expect to pay $165 per adult. Bike park tickets, meanwhile, cost $29 for kids ages 12 and younger and $39 for all other visitors. Check out the resort's website to learn more.
