Best Times to Visit Tahiti

The best time to visit Tahiti is between May and October. Although the temperatures are balmy year-round, Tahiti's winter season enjoys less humidity. Tahiti really only experiences two distinct seasons: Winter brings less rain and pleasant temperatures while the summertime – November through April – can be unbearably hot and humid, not to mention rainy. But regardless of when you travel, you can expect hotel rates to be high.

The months between May and October constitute Tahiti's dry season. Average temperatures range from the upper 60s to the mid-80s, giving travelers ideal beach weather. Plus, the humidity is at its lowest. But there is a downside: It's peak tourist season and hotel prices are high. (But then again, they're always high.)

Key Events:

  • International Graffiti Art Festival (May)
  • Heiva (June-July)
  • Billabong Pro Surf Competition (August)
  • Tahiti International Golf Championship (September)

Tahiti's long summer – from November to April – is characterized by humidity, high temperatures and heavy precipitation. In fact, December and January see an average of about 12 inches of rain each month. On average, temperatures will climb from the low 70s to the high 80s. And sadly, even though "summer" is technically Tahiti's low season, hotel rates are still pretty high.

Key Events:

  • FIFO Tahiti (January-February)
  • Papara Pro Surf Festival (April)
