Best Times to Visit The Berkshires

The best time to visit the Berkshires is from June to August, when warm weather and vibrant flora provide ideal conditions for hiking, water sports and berry picking. In these summer months, outdoor performance centers fill their lawns with visitors eager to see world-renowned classical artists and spirited dance acts with the backdrop of a burnt orange sunset. Autumn is another ideal time to visit thanks to the brilliant fall foliage, which travelers can enjoy while hiking or apple picking. Meanwhile, winter is prime ski season.

June-August

Visit the Berkshires in the summer and you'll be treated to blossoming hydrangeas, sparkling lakes and lush mountaintops accompanied by a wide array of cultural festivals. Make the most of summer with water sports and berry picking or by attending some of the area's notable musical performances. High temperatures range from the mid-70s to mid-80s, but be sure to bring an extra layer when temperatures cool down to the 50s and 60s in the evening.

Key Events:

September-October

Fall foliage and mild winds that sweep the mountains adorning this region's winding roads make for the perfect views and ideal daytime weather (high 50s to low 70s) for hikes. It's also the perfect time for apple picking, and there are many different festivals to ring in the new season.

Key Events:

November-February

In the winter months, the Berkshires offers crisp white slopes to shred along with charming holiday lights. What's more, there are also still many arts performances to see once the region turns into a winter wonderland. The low temperatures, which range from the low-20s to mid-40s, provide the ideal atmosphere for cuddling by a fireplace and sipping apple cider in one of the Berkshire town's bed-and-breakfasts.

Key Events:

March-May

The reemergence of warm weather (from the low 40s to the high 60s) inspires travelers to try their hand at fly-fishing and waterfall hikes or plan visits to local farms. The end of May welcomes the annual Berkshire International Film Festival. Plus, several of the area's attractions that closed for winter will reopen come spring.
