Best Times to Visit Vero Beach

The best time to visit Vero Beach is from March to May. During these spring months, you'll see Vero at its best. Daytime temperatures rarely climb above the mid-80s, rain showers are generally brief and crowds are manageable. Vero's best weather comes in December, January and February; however, winter is when you'll encounter the most snowbirds, so traffic is more common and prices for hotels and flights are typically higher. June, July and August are Vero's cheapest and quietest times to visit, but the threat of a hurricane and uncomfortable heat and humidity make summer worth avoiding. September, October and November also tend to be affordable while being slightly less humid, though September is Florida's most active month during the Atlantic hurricane season, so you'll want to buy travel insurance to protect your investment should a storm change your plans.

March-May

From March to May, daytime temps hover between the high 70s and mid-80s, giving you ideal weather for lounging at Round Island Oceanside Park or surfing at Sebastian Inlet State Park. Plus, March is when some of Vero's most popular events, including the Firefighters' Indian River County Fair and the Hibiscus Festival, take place. As spring progresses, you'll discover fewer snowbirds, lower room rates and possibly some blooming waterlilies in McKee Botanical Garden. Keep in mind, it may rain from time to time in spring, but showers rarely last more than 30 minutes and usually occur early in the afternoon, so you can easily plan around them. Be sure to pack an umbrella and check the weather before you head to an outdoor attraction.

Key Events:

June-August

Despite it being a budget-friendly season and the best time to see McKee Botanical Garden's beautiful waterlilies in bloom, most of summer feels muggy and unpleasant thanks to its extreme humidity, frequent showers and daytime highs around 90 degrees. June also marks the start of the Atlantic hurricane season, so you'll want to keep a close eye on the tropics. Generally, hurricanes don't start becoming a real cause for concern until August. However, storms have started forming earlier in the season in recent years, so you should take the necessary precautions, no matter when in summer you visit. Consider using the money you save on accommodations and flights to buy travel insurance.

Key Events:

September-November

Unless you plan on purchasing travel insurance, fall is not an ideal time to visit Vero. September and October are two of the Atlantic hurricane season's most active months, so it's important to come prepared. Know your airline and hotel's hurricane policies, and pack extras of necessary items like medicine and baby essentials in case you need to ride out a storm. If a hurricane doesn't put a damper on your vacation, you'll experience somewhat muggy conditions (think: noticeable humidity and daytime temps in the upper 80s) at the start of the season. By the end of fall, average highs drop into the upper 70s and the chance for storms – including hurricanes – decreases, but snowbirds start arriving so they're settled in by the holidays, which causes prices for flights and accommodations to go up.

Key Events:

December-February

You may be tempted to visit Vero in winter to take advantage of phenomenal weather, which includes a generally low chance of rain, low humidity levels and average highs in the low to mid-70s, but these excellent conditions come at a cost. By December, road traffic increases and space at local beaches is harder to come by, so you'll want to start your days early to avoid thick crowds. For more elbow room at the beach, skip central stretches of sand like South Beach Park and Humiston Beach Park and instead head to slightly farther spots, such as Round Island Oceanside Park. Because winter is Vero's peak tourist season, hotels and flights are pricey and fill up fast, so be sure to finalize your plans months in advance. Arrive after the holidays when kids are back in school for slightly lower rates.
