CityPlace#8 in Best Things To Do in West Palm Beach
- 4.0Food Scene
Like Clematis Street, CityPlace is a hub of nighttime activity in downtown West Palm Beach. But while the former has a boutique-like personality, this mega-commercial complex hosts a well-known assortment of shops – Macy's, Banana Republic and Sephora, to name a few. Taking the Cheesecake Factory approach (of course, there's one of those here, too), CityPlace is a one-stop shop for visitors. You'll also find numerous eateries to satisfy even the pickiest diners.
Though some visitors bemoan long restaurant wait times and overpriced goods, overall, many found CityPlace to be worth exploring, especially on Friday and Saturday nights when there's free live entertainment. A free choreographed water show is also held every half-hour daily. Try stopping by for dinner before a show at the on-site Harriet Himmel Theater or the nearby Kravis Center, which sits just two blocks away.
Located midway between the Intracoastal Waterway and Clear Lake, CityPlace offers travelers a convenient place to shop and dine in downtown West Palm. The complex is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and on Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. While the venue itself is free to visit, be sure to bring money if you plan on enjoying CityPlace's shops, restaurants and movie theater. On-site self-parking is also available, which is free for the first hour and costs up to $10 for the day. Up to three hours of free parking is available with a validated ticket for movie theater, LA Fitness and Cheesecake Factory patrons, as well as guests who spend $100 or more. CityPlace is accessible by car, but can also be reached by Palm Tran buses – Nos. 1, 41, 44 and 45 – and the West Palm Beach Trolley's yellow line. For more information about CityPlace's amenities, visit the property's website.

#1 McCarthy's Wildlife Sanctuary
Featuring more than 170 animals, including lions, tigers, panthers and lemurs, McCarthy's Wildlife Sanctuary is an ideal attraction for animal lovers. Unlike Lion Country Safari and the Palm Beach Zoo, McCarthy's Wildlife Sanctuary affords visitors an up close view of various animals, as well as interactive opportunities with many of the property's smaller species. In fact, travelers can hold everything from baby alligators to pythons during each tour.
Overall, past visitors appreciated McCarthy's mission to rehabilitate injured or abandoned wild animals. Not only are the grounds well-maintained, but the tour guides are also informative, polite and engaging, according to reviewers. Remember, though, to make arrangements for this attraction well in advance since appointments are required. Another note: Children younger than 5 are not permitted.
