Overview
After cruising throughout Australia, the Carnival Spirit returns to the Northern Hemisphere in April 2020. With the capacity to accommodate 2,124 guests and 930 crew members, Spirit is among the smaller ships in the line's namesake class.
Originally launched in April 2001, the Carnival Spirit has undergone several refurbishments, most recently in May 2018. Top amenities on this ship include WaterWorks – the onboard water park that features a 214-foot-tall spiral waterslide – Carnival's very own Lip Sync Battle and Hasbro, The Game Show, which features life-size versions of popular board games, including Yahtzee and Connect 4. Alongside three kids-only spaces, the ship also features the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat.
Despite the recent renovations, some reviewers said the ship's cabins could still use some refurbishment to enhance dated decor. Others cited thin walls. Carnival Spirit offers accommodation classes typical of the line (Interior, Ocean View, Balcony and Suite), but the ship does not feature some of the line's newer cabin categories, such as the Cloud 9 Spa staterooms.
Dining options are also more limited compared to the line's larger ships, but Carnival Spirit does offer specialty favorites like a steakhouse and sushi venue, as well as Guy's Burger Joint – a Guy Fieri eatery.
For the 2020 cruising season, Carnival Spirit sails to Alaska and Hawaii from ports in Honolulu, Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia.
