Never again!

Dec 10th, 2018

From the moment we embarked there was nothing but hard sell tactics. All anyone was our money! The ship was crowded, so much so that it proved impossible to ever get a table for our whole party in the buffet area at any meal time. There was a looped message playing asking people to vacate their chairs as soon as possible do others could sit down to eat - hardly a relaxing way to eat!! I will NEVER sail with Royal Caribbean again. Of the almost 20 cruises I have been on in the last 5 years, this was by far the worst.

Overall Good Let’s start then Checking in Way too long, not enough staff, stood in line for 1 hour 30 mins, very uncomfortable for some cruisers, we have never faced this issue before, no explanation as to why, so just had to wait. Cabin Compared to other RC Ships this felt small and compact, enough space for everything, but was only on for 4 days, and longer and I think you would be pushed for space. Food As per usual, we found it good, never had to wait, and staff were helpful. Room Steward He was helpful, finding us extra bedding as the bed was to firm, but as for a happy smiley face, this never happened. No towel animal for the 4 days, I love these, our next door neighbours had a different steward and had one every day. Entertainment Didn’t have enough time over 4 days to check it all out, but what we did see was good. Conclusion RC seem to be missing the little touches it used to have, but cut backs are always inevitable. The ship itself it clean, well presented, we had loads of fun, I would recommend it go have fun meet new people and make friends.

Not a fan of RC after the first try

We decided to try RC after NCL and Carnival thinking it'll be yet another step up, but were rather disappointed. Even going across the atlantic with 95% of people on the ship being >55 years old was more fun than Mexico and Bahamas on a supposedly party boat. We might try it again, depending on the destination, but the lack of personal touches, secondary entertainment (other than main shows), buffet size and options prevents me from recommending RC (Independence, specifically) over NCL (Epic) or even Carnival (way cheaper).

Very relaxing

Nice ship. Most of the staff was very nice. Very disappointed that some of the bars were out of the alcohol we liked or just didn’t have it. Do not try and order breakfast in main dining room. Very slow. A lot of areas on the ship seemed under staffed. Shows and entertainment were great.

Other than slow room service and a suite with a Way too small shower stall, and room temperature you couldn't really control, a great cruise and ship.

Over all, fantastic. Did receive my pre paid drink package cup until bed time on Amdahl one of cruise. Asked several, but no cup. But, I did finally get one. All else was perfect. Just what we needed and hoped for.

We loves our 5 day cruise overall. Main dining room service was great, from food to cleanliness to service. Buffet at windjammer was mediocre. Most of the time there were activities to do on the ship. Some rules could have been enforced more such as limits on hot tub times and not saving seats for shows. Only one ice cream machine that is not self serve like Carnival. Professional pictures taken had all the same poses rather than unique ones at each backdrop. They did not run on time for leaving ports or starting shows. Happy to answer any questions about comparison to Carnival or general questions of independence of the seas based on my experience.

Once again we love this ship. I will say this time they had issues with the drink machines the entire cruise. . . No ice half the time, no diet drinks over half the time, and no caffeine free drinks over half the time. I'm the end Royal took care of the inconvience. We had the Deluxe package.

Over all it was ????????.

We just returned today from our second Cruise aboard the Independence of the Seas. We had a great Cruise last time on Independence and the experience was exactly the same this time as well. Our wait staff in the main dining room was superb, the menu selections were great each night and the food was very good to excellent. The refurbishment has freshened up the look of the ship a little bit but it also added quite a bit more passengers as we noticed the Promenade and pool areas seemed to get much more crowded than the last time we were on the ship. We saw all of the shows the last time we were on Independence, so we skipped most of them. We did see Grease again which was great, and the ice skating show which was actually better on Allure of the Seas and Freedom of the Seas from what I remember. All of the crew that we encountered seemed happy and eager to please. Our room Steward kept our room spotless and she was really great to talk to. The rooms probably should have been refurbished when they drydocked the ship, however they remain the same. Everything worked as expected but the carpet, furniture and especially the couch could use a replacement. Our ports were Cozumel and Coco Cay. We didn't bother getting off the ship in Cozumel since we have been there so many times, and as for Coco Cay I was a little disappointed in the beach area. It was nowhere near as nice as of the beaches I've been to on other Islands including Labadee and Grand Turk. The sand was gritty and hard, the water wasn't overly clean with lot of seaweed and other types of things floating around in the water. The food that is served on the island was the same as what they do in Labadie, it's really not that great but it will hold you over until you got back on the ship. I think once the island is completely finished and you don't have to Tender in and the dock is built and the pool, water slides and other amenities are finished I think it'll be a great port. Overall it was a great Cruise as we expected and the Independence of the Seas is definitely one of our favorite ships. I hope to cruise on her again one day. I highly recommend Independence of the seas.
