On Shore with Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean offers a wide selection of shore excursions that range from bicycle tours, wildlife watching and sightseeing trips to helicopter tours, 4x4 off-road drives and scuba adventures. You can explore new cities on a guided sightseeing excursion or taste new flavors on a culinary discovery tour. Shore excursions vary by cruise itinerary and season; you can see what's available for your cruise and reserve your spot up to four days prior to departure on the Cruise Planner section of the Royal Caribbean website or download your cruise's excursion brochure.

Cruisers sailing to the Bahamas on select ships will also have access to Perfect Day at CocoCay – a massive private island exclusively for Royal Caribbean travelers. It debuted in early 2019 and Royal Caribbean plans to complete the island by December 2019. This island features the Thrill Waterpark (fitted with a 135-foot slide), the Oasis Lagoon (the Caribbean's largest freshwater pool with a swim-up bar) and a helium balloon that floats up to 450 feet above the ground. Ships departing from ports in Texas, Maryland and Florida, among others, include Perfect Day in their itineraries.

Travelers can also opt to disembark the ship and explore the port city on their own, if they choose not to book a shore excursion. With that said, be sure to keep an eye on the clock: If you're late to reboard your cruise ship, you'll be left behind. The ship will wait, however, for cruisers on a shore excursion booked through Royal Caribbean in the unlikely event the tour is delayed.
